Former Real Madrid and Everton player Royston Drenthe has been rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke.

According to a statement from FC De Rebellen – where Drenthe plays amateur football – the former defender received timely care and is now in stable condition. The incident happened on October 17. Immediately after being discovered, Drenthe was taken to the emergency room.

Doctors hope Drenthe will have a smooth recovery. The former player's family also called for respect for privacy so that they can focus on supporting Drenthe during this difficult period.
