Saving a patient in cardiac arrest while playing Pickleball

(Baohatinh.vn) - Thanks to timely first aid and the efforts of doctors and nurses at Ha Tinh General Hospital, a male patient was saved after his heart stopped for nearly 40 minutes.

Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital (Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital) said that the unit had received and successfully treated a male patient, NMT (49 years old, Thanh Sen ward), who had stopped breathing and had a heart attack for nearly 40 minutes.

Accordingly, on August 26, the Emergency Department of Poison Control - Ha Tinh General Hospital received a patient in a state of cyanosis, deep coma, respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest.

After 9 days of intensive treatment, patient T. has fully recovered and will be discharged in the next few days.

According to the patient's family, while playing Pickleball, Mr. T. suddenly fell down. Immediately after, Mr. T. was given CPR by a fellow player and an ambulance was called. On the way to the hospital, Mr. T. continued to receive CPR and continuous CPR. After 25 minutes, the patient was taken to the provincial general hospital in a state of cyanosis, deep coma, respiratory arrest, and cardiac arrest.

Here, doctors performed emergency resuscitation such as chest compressions, balloon injection, intubation, and continuous electric shock. After 15 minutes of intensive care, the patient's heartbeat returned.

The patient was then resuscitated and underwent a multidisciplinary consultation and was diagnosed with a myocardial infarction. The patient was immediately transferred to the interventional cardiology unit for angiography and emergency coronary stent placement. The patient was then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment in a state of severe shock and deep coma. Here, the patient was continuously dialysis, put on a ventilator, and administered vasopressors and cardiac support drugs.

The Intensive Care Unit has connected Tele-ICU consultation (online emergency resuscitation) with the Department of Emergency and Intensive Care Unit - Hanoi Medical University Hospital to optimize the treatment regimen. After 9 days of intensive treatment, the patient has fully recovered, is more alert and will be discharged in the next few days.
