A variety of summer skills classes for children
Every summer, the Nam Dinh Children's Cultural House is bustling with fun, social and learning activities for children. Currently, the Cultural House accepts children to participate in activities with gifted subjects such as: organ, guitar, violin, badminton, chess, vocal music, dance, traditional martial arts, etc. The Cultural House always prepares well the conditions of facilities and teaching staff with the aim of providing children with useful and effective courses. Currently, all of the more than 20 functional classrooms in the Cultural House have been upgraded and decorated to suit each subject; the tools for teaching and learning gifted subjects are fully invested.
In addition, to improve the quality of teaching and learning, the Nam Dinh Ward Children's Cultural House regularly coordinates with the Provincial Youth Culture and Sports Center and a number of primary and secondary schools in the area to invite collaborators to teach. The study time of each class is usually 3 sessions/week, the course lasts 2 months. Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, Thien Truong Ward has a child in grade 2. This summer vacation, she sent her child to swimming lessons at the ward children's cultural house. Ms. Yen said: "Swimming is one of the essential skills needed. During the summer vacation, I let my child practice swimming, which helps him exercise physically, relax after a hard time studying, and also helps him equip himself with skills to prevent drowning." Like Ms. Yen, this summer, Ms. Pham Hong Nhung in Nam Dinh Ward chose to let her child learn to be an MC to help her child be more confident and bold in communication.
Lien music art club in Nam Dinh ward is more bustling every summer. With subjects such as dance, vocal music, fine arts, piano, etc., the club has become a trusted address for many parents. Teacher Trinh Thi Lanh, a dance teacher at the club, said: “With a clean and airy space, we hope to create a healthy and useful art playground, thereby improving the health and comprehensive development of children. Along with serious investment in facilities and modern equipment, the classroom fully meets the needs of teaching and learning dance. The club's teaching staff are all dynamic and enthusiastic, creating trust for parents when sending their children to study here.”
Ms. Do Thi Ngoc Mai (Phu Ly ward) shared: “After researching, I registered my child for a piano class at an art center in the ward. Through the class, I hope my child will have a useful and interesting summer vacation. Up to now, my child has studied for 3 weeks, and every time he goes to class, he is very happy and excited”. Ms. Dinh Thi Nhung, parent of Tran Ha My (7 years old) in Tay Hoa Lu ward shared: “Every summer, I register my child for gifted and life skills classes. By participating in the classes, my child is always happy, improves his physical strength as well as his communication and behavioral skills. Every summer ends, my child always promises to study well so that he can participate in gifted subjects next year”.
Not only urban children, many children in rural areas also participate in formal summer classes. Tran Gia Bao, 11 years old, Yen Khanh commune said: “In the past, I stayed home to watch TV or play soccer during the summer. This year, my mother sent me to a comic drawing class. I learned how to draw characters and tell stories through pictures. I am very happy to draw my own short story for the first time.”
Besides traditional talent classes such as music , art, swimming, martial arts, etc., there are also many other classes opened such as: cake making, yoga classes for children, etc. This shows the diversity and richness of the classes, which is also a development suitable for modern life.
Grasping the great demand from parents, many centers organize skills classes that are increasingly "blossoming". However, not all facilities ensure quality and safety for children. Many parents report that the classes are only for childcare, have few activities, teachers lack pedagogical skills or have not been properly trained in life skills. Therefore, when choosing a summer skills class for children, parents need to carefully research the organizing unit, program content, teaching staff and facilities so that their children's lessons are truly effective and useful. Learning gifted subjects is only effective when children have passion, interest and especially talent, avoiding the situation of following trends.
Summer is not only a time for rest but also a time for children to discover new things outside of books. With the companionship and right choices of parents, summer skills classes will support the comprehensive and sustainable development of children in the future.
