Cat Hai Special Zone: Village in the middle of the ocean recognized as a community tourism destination

On August 14, the People's Committee of Cat Hai special economic zone announced the decision of the People's Committee of Hai Phong city to recognize Viet Hai community tourism site.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Mr. Vu Huu Vung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cat Hai Special Zone, said that on June 19, 2025, the People's Committee of Hai Phong City issued a Decision to recognize Viet Hai in Cat Hai Special Zone as a Community Tourism Destination.

Viet Hai community tourism site consists of 2 villages (village 1 and village 2) with 87 households and 295 people living there. Viet Hai is a place with natural landscapes and ecological environment, a destination for those who love nature and wild beauty.

Coming to Viet Hai, visitors will feel the unique culture and the simple life of the local people. Viet Hai has gradually become an attractive community tourism destination for domestic and international tourists.

To effectively and sustainably exploit the Viet Hai Community Tourism Site, Mr. Vu Huu Vung suggested that agencies, units, enterprises, cooperatives of villages and people of Viet Hai need to propagate to people to clearly understand the outstanding value of the Viet Hai Community Tourism Site in the World Natural Heritage of Ha Long Bay - Cat Ba Archipelago, to enhance responsibility in the work of preserving and promoting the value of the heritage.

The leaders of Cat Hai special zone also requested relevant units to attract organizations and enterprises with potential to invest in infrastructure to serve green and sustainable tourism development in Viet Hai; guide Viet Hai villages to soon build cultural village conventions, including implementing green transformation targets in Viet Hai, first of all, implementing green transformation for green transportation, green tourism, green energy, green environment, green agriculture in the period 2025-2030.

This is the premise and important highlight for the locality to build and develop the brand "Green Cat Ba."

Relevant agencies and units continue to coordinate with Cat Ba National Park to have synchronous, scientific solutions, strictly and effectively manage natural resources in Viet Hai, develop the Viet Hai community tourism model to become a bright spot of the special zone and the city, attracting domestic and international tourists to visit and experience.

According to Ms. Pham Thi To Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong, Viet Hai village is blessed with beautiful natural scenery, located in the heart of Cat Ba National Park - a world biosphere reserve.

Recognizing Viet Hai as a community tourism destination will contribute to preserving and promoting the value of natural and cultural resources, while opening up opportunities for economic and social development, improving people's lives, and linking with the goal of developing community tourism in Hai Phong./.
