The brackish water lagoon has great potential.

Cu Mong Lagoon is a brackish water lagoon with an area of 26.55 km² , surrounded by six communes: Xuan Canh, Xuan Phuong, Xuan Binh, Xuan Loc, Xuan Hai, and Xuan Thinh. According to the plan for 2025, when Song Cau town develops into a city, Cu Mong Lagoon will be located within the inner city area.

The lagoon was formed by the approximately 15km long Cu Mong mountain range, running along the coast to create the Xuan Hai peninsula. Viewed from the top of Cu Mong mountain, Cu Mong lagoon resembles a shimmering silk ribbon, winding and meandering through villages with vast expanses of green coconut trees.

Visiting Cù Mông Lagoon, tourists can admire the peaceful and familiar beauty of nature, with green coconut fronds like giant combs against the sky, gentle sea breezes, and the calm, clear blue surface of the lagoon, occasionally rippled by the wind. Here you'll find Bàu Beach, Rạng Beach, and more. The entrance to the lagoon is sheltered by two rocky outcrops forming an arc, like the embrace of Mother East Sea holding her child, Cù Mông Lagoon.

The lagoon is further enhanced by the Binh Phu Bridge, connecting the banks of Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces. Since the construction of this bridge and National Highway 1D leading to Quy Nhon, the northeastern area of Song Cau has developed quite rapidly, making Song Cau the northern gateway to Phu Yen province. In addition, there is a wooden bridge spanning the lagoon's width, attracting tourists to take photos amidst the vast green expanse of the lagoon.

When visiting Cu Mong Lagoon, don't forget to enjoy seafood dishes such as lobster, crab, fish, squid, and sea crab... This area also has valuable seafood species like rock clams and seahorses marinated in wine, which bring high economic value.

Proposal for ranking as a national scenic spot.

For a long time, Cu Mong Lagoon has sustained thousands of people through aquaculture and fishing. It is also home to the Tuyet Diem salt flats, producing firm, pure white salt crystals, an indispensable ingredient in the production of the delicious and long-established Ganh Do fish sauce.

Within the lagoon lies Hon Nan, a small island with scattered rocks and sparse vegetation. On Hon Nan Island stands a shrine called the Shrine of Meritorious Officials; this is a historical site commemorating the soldiers of Nguyen Anh's army in their battle against the Tay Son forces. Today, the shrine serves as a cultural and religious center for the local people.

According to historical accounts, when Nguyen Anh's army was pursued by the Tay Son dynasty, they had to take refuge in Hon Kho, part of the Cu Mong mountain range. While searching for a way down the mountain to reach the South, Nguyen Anh and his soldiers were supplied with food by the local people living along the lagoon to sustain them. The story goes that an elderly woman named Pham Thi gave Nguyen Anh rice cakes to eat and disguised him as a rice cake vendor, guiding him by boat to safety during a perilous time. After becoming king, Nguyen Anh returned to this place to express his gratitude and provided funding for the construction of the temple dedicated to the meritorious official.

In addition, this area also contains the Go Oc archaeological site, a hill stretching along the edge of the Cu Mong lagoon, located in Xuan Binh commune; this site was discovered in 1980. Specialized agencies have conducted two explorations, resulting in the recovery of stone tools, pottery, and other artifacts…

According to the Phu Yen Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Government, by 2025-2030, Song Cau town will develop into a city, a type II urban area directly under Phu Yen province; in which Cu Mong lagoon and Xuan Dai bay will be two green parks in the inner city area. This is a distinctive feature of Song Cau as a high-quality tourism and resort town.

Reportedly, the authorities of Phu Yen province are currently preparing a dossier to request the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to classify Cu Mong Lagoon as a national scenic spot.
