With the goal of building and perfecting the process of growing some melon varieties in greenhouses suitable for the practical conditions of Ninh Binh province, the Department of Science and Technology has directed the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Support for Innovation to implement the project "Application of scientific and technological advances to build a model of growing and consuming some melon varieties in greenhouses with high economic efficiency in Ninh Binh province".
Implementing the direction of the Department of Science and Technology, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Support for Innovation has coordinated with the Institute for Regional Research and Development, Van Quyen Safe Agricultural Products Cooperative, Mai Son Agricultural Cooperative to implement a model of growing melons in greenhouses in Yen Thang ward. The melon varieties grown in the model are Kim Hong Ngoc golden melon, Hami melon and Kim De Vuong melon.

To ensure the successful implementation of the model, the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Innovation Support has coordinated with the Institute for Regional Research and Development to organize 2 training courses on planting, care, protection and harvesting techniques for 60 farming households participating in greenhouse melon cultivation. Thanks to training and technical guidance, the households have implemented 3 crops, including: Crop 1 from March 7 to May 23, 2025; Crop 2 from May 24 to August 8, 2025 and Crop 3 from August 9 to October 30, 2025. For the Kim Hong Ngoc golden melon variety, the planting density is 2,500 plants/1,000m2, 1 plant/1 pot and planted in the cool afternoon; after planting, insert the watering needle 2-3cm from the base and water immediately. For Hami melon and Kim De Vuong melon varieties, planted at a density of 2,500m2; after planting, insert irrigation needles 2-3cm from the base and water immediately. Due to being planted, cared for and protected according to the correct technical process, the melon variety in the greenhouse has a yield of 74 quintals/ha (Kim Hong Ngoc golden melon), Kim De Vuong melon reaches 77 quintals/ha and Hami melon reaches 79 quintals/ha; the economic value reaches from 248 to 262 million VND/ha.
The successful construction of the model of growing melons in greenhouses not only helps farmers to receive the process of growing and consuming some melon varieties in greenhouses suitable to their level and investment capacity, but also supports the unit in charge of building the process of growing some melon varieties in greenhouses with high economic efficiency in Ninh Binh province. This is a new direction in safe agricultural production, creating quality products, contributing to increasing the value of agricultural products and promoting the transformation of crop structure of localities in the province.
