You must score 8 points or higher in Math to register for semiconductor course.

According to the entrance standards for the university-level semiconductor industry, candidates must achieve at least 8 points in the high school graduation exam in Math and a minimum total score of 24 in 3 subjects.

The above regulation is included in the university-level semiconductor training program standards announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on May 15. This standard applies to universities participating in the Government's program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050".

Specifically, candidates who want to study for a bachelor's or engineering degree in semiconductor microchips, if applying for admission based on high school graduation exam scores, must use a combination of Math and at least one Natural Science subject suitable for the training program.

The total score of all subjects must reach at least 80% of the scale, for example, at least 24/30 for a combination of three subjects. Of which, the Math test score must reach at least 80% of the scale, equivalent to 8/10.

For those who have a university degree, they must have a degree appropriate to the training program they are applying for and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.8/4 or higher.

For students studying in another major and transferring to semiconductor microchip at the time of consideration, a GPA of 2.5/4 or higher is required.

For master's degree, undergraduate GPA requirement is 2.8/4 or higher.

Previously in February, when consulting on the draft standard for semiconductor training programs, many schools said that the 8-point criterion for each subject was rigid, creating technical barriers in enrollment.

If applied, schools are worried that they will not be able to meet the goal of training 50,000 workers for the semiconductor industry by 2030, as required by the Government . The representative of the Ministry of Education and Training at that time expressed that it is impossible to lower the input standards to meet the large demand for human resources.
