“ Dong Thap land and people” volume 11 and some published volumes.
The Dong Thap Historical Science Association was established in 2000, and is notable for its many activities in researching, collecting, and promoting the historical values of Dong Thap in particular and the South in general. Every year, the Dong Thap Historical Science Association publishes 4 issues of the journal "Dong Thap past and present", quarterly; along with the book "Dong Thap land and people" published 1 volume each year. These publications have created a great resonance, attracting many prestigious research and scholar writers in the South to participate. Although both publications are named Dong Thap, their content is not limited, but spans the cultural and historical space of the South, in many topics such as history, geography, culture, society, famous people, etc.
As for the book “Dong Thap land and people”, the first volume was released in 2004, on the occasion of “Dong Thap 300 years”. The book collects articles by many researchers inside and outside the province on the historical and cultural values… of the land named Dong Thap province since February 1976, due to the merger of the two provinces of Sa Dec and Kien Phong (old). The book has the participation of many veteran researchers such as Son Nam, Nguyen Dinh Dau… creating a special attraction, attracting much attention from researchers and readers. From this success, “Dong Thap land and people” has been regularly released to readers, each volume each year, now it is volume 11, also the last volume of the old Dong Thap province, welcoming the establishment of the new Dong Thap province.
Volume 11 of the book is divided into 3 parts, with many valuable articles. The 21 articles in the section "Homeland - Country" are elaborate studies on the history of the land and people of the South. We can mention the profound research article by author Le Minh Trung "The influence of Vice-Chancellor Nguyen Sinh Sac - on the personality and revolutionary aspirations of Nguyen Tat Thanh - Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh ", or the article "The land and people of Cao Lanh with Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac by author Le Xuan Thanh". Many articles also specifically study issues such as measurement during the Nguyen Dynasty, Vinh Te Canal and the origin of the place name Vinh Te, the role of the canal system in the development of the Southwest region...
In Part 2, “Characters - Events”, through 19 research articles, readers approach many historical issues of high scientific nature. These are historical figures such as Phan Ba Tong, Hung Dong general Nguyen Cong Nhan, Cao Huu Duc, Nguyen Van Nhon… Or the story of Nguyen Anh fleeing to Con Dao and the legend of Lady Phi Yen, the story of the first three disciples of the founder Minh Dang Quang, the story of Long Quang ancient temple in Can Tho… By the method of researching documents, historical books, research and fieldwork, the articles provide a lot of information and convincing comments.
The “Culture” section attracts readers like a colorful picture of Southern culture, from Oc Eo culture, folk beliefs, to the living culture of the Western people. It is interesting to read about the food and talk of the Western region, then the worship of Ba Chua Xu Nui Sam, the worship of the Immortal Master, the worship of 7 Ladies and 2 Boys in An Giang… The 20 articles are all rich in documents, showing the effort of the author.
“Dong Thap land and people” through 11 volumes has created a cultural brand, not only for the Dong Thap Historical Science Association but also contributed greatly to preserving, maintaining, and promoting the culture and history of the Mekong Delta region past and present. I am sure that the journey of “Dong Thap land and people” will go far.
