Auction of license plates brings in 6,400 billion VND to the state budget

On June 20, the Traffic Police Department (C08), Ministry of Public Security, announced that it had signed a decision approving the plan to organize the 7th nationwide vehicle license plate auction.

It is expected that more than 1.23 million license plates of 34 provinces and cities will be publicly listed before entering the auction. The entire list of license plates will be posted on the Ministry of Public Security's electronic information portal and the Traffic Police Department's information page according to the provisions of Decree 156. The listing period will last 1 month before entering the official auction, expected to take place at the end of July 2025, in coordination between C08 and Vietnam Joint Stock Auction Company (VPA).

Previously, the 6th auction took place from April 8 to June 19 and recorded exciting results with nearly 56,500 license plates successfully auctioned, bringing in about 2,300 billion VND.

Of these, more than 19,500 car license plates and nearly 37,000 motorbike license plates were auctioned. Notably, the actual amount paid into the budget was about VND2,000 billion, showing the high payment rate and commitment of the auction winners.

Many “four of a kind” and “progressive” license plates continue to attract great attention from the public with record high winning prices. Among them are license plate 30M-888.88: 10.5 billion VND; license plate 99A-888.88: 10 billion VND and some motorbike license plates such as: 50AA-888.88: 1.45 billion VND; 11AA-111.11: 1.13 billion VND.

A representative of the Traffic Police Department said that the total amount of money collected from license plate auctions nationwide has so far reached about 6,400 billion VND, a figure that shows the strong attraction of the program and its effectiveness in creating a legal source of revenue for the state budget.

Organizing public and transparent auctions not only helps people have the opportunity to own license plates according to their preferences but also contributes to preventing negativity in the management of motor vehicle license plates.
