Since 1997, the province has started to build a network of concentrated animal slaughterhouses and has gradually improved it to date. Currently, the province has 45 operating slaughterhouses, with a slaughter capacity of about 221 buffaloes and cows, 5,300 pigs and 67,500 poultry per day and night; more than 85% of fresh animal products after slaughter are transported out of the province, mainly to Ho Chi Minh City for consumption. It is known that to meet the daily slaughter volume, slaughterhouses must import livestock and poultry from outside the province, with about 70% of buffaloes and cows, 80% of pigs and 65% of poultry compared to the slaughter demand, mainly from the provinces in the Southeast region.
The province has 45 slaughterhouses in operation.
According to the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Fisheries, the work of controlling animal diseases in the province is carried out by the specialized veterinary management agency according to regulations. According to the assessment, it is estimated that more than 95% of livestock and 90% of poultry slaughtered in the province are controlled; thereby, basically managing the supply of animal products to meet veterinary hygiene and food safety requirements.
Head of the Provincial Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries - Le Thi Mai Khanh said: "Every year, the Department organizes the monitoring of veterinary hygiene indicators and checks the residue indicators of Salbutamol and sedatives on meat products at the slaughterhouses with a frequency of 2 times/year; at the same time, coordinates with the Central Veterinary Hygiene Inspection Center II to conduct food safety monitoring and proactive monitoring of antibiotic resistance in pigs and chickens at the slaughterhouses and markets.
It is expected that in the third quarter of 2024, the Department will deploy the application of quarantine management software, KSGM, issuance of quarantine certificates and software for printing receipts, fee and charge invoices integrated into the Provincial Public Administration Service Portal and the Provincial Agricultural Sector Database.
According to the plan, the provincial Department of Agriculture will continue to maintain and upgrade existing slaughterhouses, relocate or terminate operations of facilities that no longer meet the requirements. At the same time, the province will not accept new investment projects in small and retail slaughterhouses, but will only focus on facilities with modern slaughterhouse technology and large capacity./.
