Officers and workers of Can Tho City Electricity Company distribute leaflets instructing on safe electricity use to people in Binh Thuy district.
Currently, Can Tho City Power Company is managing and operating 12 110kV transformer stations along with more than 240,000km of high-voltage lines and 5,500km of medium-voltage and low-voltage lines... ensuring safe and reliable power supply for the city. However, during the rainy and stormy season, situations such as tornadoes causing trees or architectural works to fall onto the power grid, power poles or heavy rain lasting for many hours, causing flooding on many inner-city roads, parks, markets or people's houses are very likely to occur and lead to electrical incidents, causing short circuits, interrupting the power supply as well as risks of electrical safety loss at public places or in households... And to minimize power grid incidents and electrical safety loss during the rainy and stormy season, Can Tho City Power Company has directed its affiliated power companies to repair power lines and clean transformer stations before the rainy and stormy season; Inspect and handle locations at risk of insecurity, such as areas where the above-ground grid and underground grid intersect, power poles, power lines and substations in vulnerable areas, etc. At the same time, coordinate with relevant agencies and local authorities to inspect the safety corridor of the power grid; mobilize people to cut and prune trees at risk of falling into the power grid; strengthen warnings and instructions for people in areas frequently flooded by storms to proactively take preventive measures to ensure electrical safety as well as minimize damage to property and human life caused by natural disasters and storms.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Duy, Head of Safety Department, Can Tho City Electricity Company, in order to proactively prevent, avoid and promptly respond to natural disasters, ensuring power supply during the rainy and stormy season, the affiliated electricity units have focused on seriously implementing the natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue plans of each unit; fully preparing human resources, means, equipment, materials, etc. to be ready to respond to incidents caused by natural disasters and storms. Along with that, the electricity sector also regularly propagates and warns about potential risks that may cause electrical safety loss and preventive solutions for people; combines the organization of distributing leaflets and handbooks on electrical safety, etc. to people, especially households living near high-voltage power grids or public areas, traditional markets in the city.
To improve the skills of safe use of electricity as well as prevent electrical accidents for people during the rainy and stormy season, Can Tho City Electricity Company recommends that people take some electrical safety measures in the house, such as installing fuses, circuit breakers, and circuit breakers with anti-leakage features suitable for the need to protect the family's shared electrical system. In some areas at risk of flooding, electrical equipment must be installed separately in each area of the house and additional electrical on/off devices should be installed to easily turn off the power when needed; install electrical outlets 1.4 meters above the floor; electrical equipment that is frequently in contact with water sources such as washing machines, refrigerators or hot and cold water purifiers, etc. must be grounded. When water floods the house, the power source in the house such as the main circuit breaker and circuit breaker should be completely cut off and no electrical equipment or tools should be touched with wet hands or walking on wet floors; Remember to unplug electrical appliances and devices when not in use; regularly check and maintain electrical appliances in the home. In addition, all electrical wires in the home should be placed in insulated conduits and use insulated wires; all switches, fuses, and circuit breakers in the home must be placed in a dry place to ensure safety; limit the use of pumps, electric fans or devices that come into direct contact with water if there are no safe insulation conditions...
When detecting broken wires, leaking electric poles or unusual glowing phenomena, people should keep a safe distance of at least 10 meters and notify the nearest local power company. Or quickly contact the customer care center of Southern Power Corporation via the two numbers: 19001006 - 19009000 for timely support.
