This afternoon (February 27), Comrade Le Hong Vinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired a working session with the working delegation of Vietnam Airlines Corporation (ACV) to speed up the implementation of a number of items and projects to renovate and expand Vinh International Airport.

Attending the meeting were Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Phu Hien, along with representatives of a number of departments, branches and Vinh City People's Committee.

In June 2023, the Prime Minister approved the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. On that basis, on February 19, 2025, the Ministry of Transport approved the planning of Vinh International Airport as a level 4E airport. In particular, in the period 2021 - 2030, the terminals and related infrastructure will be expanded and planned to increase the capacity to 8 million passengers/year; the apron will have about 15 code C positions. By 2050, runway 2 will be built; the aircraft apron will be expanded to 29 positions; the T2 passenger terminal will be expanded, increasing the total capacity to about 14 million passengers/year.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines Corporation is focusing on implementing 3 projects at Vinh International Airport, including: Expanding and renovating the aircraft parking lot to ensure the exploitation of 9 parking positions for code C aircraft; Renovating the existing T1 Passenger Terminal; Renovating the existing runway. The total investment of the projects is nearly 930 billion VND. All 3 projects will be completed by the end of December 2025.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh emphasized that the renovation and expansion of Vinh International Airport is putting pressure on both Nghe An province and Vietnam Airlines Corporation to serve the requirements of socio-economic growth and development. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that among the three projects being implemented, the project to expand and renovate the aircraft parking lot needs to clearly define the contents and tasks to ensure smooth coordination between the two sides.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh suggested that in addition to renovating the existing 2,400m runway, ACV should study and develop an investment policy to extend the runway by 600m. At the same time, he affirmed that Nghe An province is ready to provide maximum support in terms of materials, construction subcontractors, and site clearance so that ACV can implement the projects smoothly; shorten the construction time, and soon put the project into operation.
