Focus on green development
Entering An Nhien Garden of An Nhien Vegetarian Macrobiotics Company, visitors will not only find a rich vegetarian menu but also experience a green living philosophy realized. Nearly 70% of the ingredients are produced and grown by local farmers, reducing emissions from transportation and supporting farmers' livelihoods. Notably, all daily food waste is classified, weighed and composted into organic fertilizer, helping to reduce up to 60% of organic waste and fertilizer for the garden on campus.
Notably, the restaurant also publicly discloses the amount of emissions generated during the creation of each dish, from selecting ingredients, transporting to processing. Thanks to that, diners can recognize the level of environmental friendliness of the dishes they choose. “We want customers to understand that every choice they make, no matter how small, contributes to reducing emissions and spreading a green lifestyle,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy An, Director of An Nhien Vegetarian Macrobiotics Company Limited.
These persistent efforts have brought An Nhien Garden the award “ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Destination 2024 - 2025”. The restaurant’s green journey has also been introduced at many international forums such as Korea, Thailand, Laos… This is proof that even a small service business can still convey the message of environmental protection.
Similarly, Alba Thanh Tan, a hot spring resort of Thanh Tan Thua Thien Hue Joint Stock Company, has also created many highlights in green business. From reusable glass bottles as flower vases, straws made from lemongrass instead of plastic straws, to the system of classifying organic and inorganic waste at the source, every small detail is calculated to minimize the impact on the environment. The landscape department also grinds pruned branches and composts them into bio-fertilizers to grow 1.2 hectares of green vegetables for the restaurant.
Thanks to these creative solutions, Alba Thanh Tan has reduced plastic packaging by 70% on average each year, saving tens of millions of VND in electricity bills each month. For visitors, these small details create a memorable experience. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (Ho Chi Minh City) shared: "Every year I come back here several times because at Alba Thanh Tan I not only get to relax but also get more motivation to live green from simple, familiar things."
According to Mr. Eugene Hendriks, Director of Alba Thanh Tan Resort, developing green tourism is not a slogan, but a long journey that is nurtured every day. Every employee and every department in the company is encouraged to act for the environment, from saving energy, reducing waste to improving work processes. The management maintains regular meetings to look back, self-reflect and self-correct, and invites independent experts to evaluate for continuous improvement. “Going green cannot be successful in a day or two. The important thing is to turn it into a habit, once the habit is formed, tourists will also join in and spread that spirit to the outside,” Mr. Eugene Hendriks emphasized.

Brand affirmation
If the service industry connects tourists with green experiences, the textile industry, Hue's export pillar, is also proving that greening is the key to survival and growth.
Scavi Hue is one of the pioneering enterprises in the green development journey. The enterprise has cooperated with Constant Energy Group, an international unit specializing in investing and operating rooftop solar power systems to implement the project at the factory in Phong Dien, and at the same time researched and integrated additional energy storage solutions (BESS) to increase sustainability. Scavi's new projects also aim at the "green - smart factory 4.0" model, applying renewable energy, automation and environmentally friendly management solutions, creating a foundation for long-term development.
Not stopping at infrastructure, Scavi Hue is also a pioneer in applying carbon emission measurement tools for each product, publicly disclosing environmental data according to ESG standards, an increasingly mandatory factor in the global supply chain. Mr. Tran Van My, General Director of Scavi Hue, shared: “Greening is not only a commitment to partners, but also a responsibility to the community and workers. A clean and safe production environment is also the way to retain tens of thousands of workers for the long term.”
Also following the sustainable roadmap, Hue Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company (Huegatex) aims to reduce emissions, wastewater and waste by an average of 1% per unit of product per year from 2020 onwards, while expanding its plan to reduce electricity consumption by an additional 3%. The company also deploys the production of yarn, fabric and garments using recycled fiber components, considering this a practical step to join the green supply chain of major brands.
Huegatex's new factory is built to green standards, using solar power, biomass boilers instead of coal, and a wastewater treatment system with automatic monitoring and online transmission to the Department of Agriculture and Environment.

According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Lien, General Director of Huegatex: “International customers are increasingly demanding. To stand firm in the supply chain, businesses must make green transformation. This is an inevitable path and also an opportunity to affirm the Huegatex brand in the global textile industry.”
The efforts of enterprises are inseparable from the major orientation of Hue city in building a green economy. According to member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong, the city has been synchronizing many solutions to attract and support green development enterprises, such as: Investing in logistics infrastructure, seaports, airports, and transportation; improving the investment environment, simplifying administrative procedures, and shortening licensing time. The city also focuses on training high-quality human resources through cooperation with universities and vocational institutions.
“The city not only wants to attract investment capital, but more importantly, to create a sustainable business environment. Green businesses need a synchronous ecosystem, from policies to infrastructure, to develop properly,” Mr. Phan Quy Phuong emphasized.
From simple details such as the straws made from lemongrass at Alba Thanh Tan, the green menu at An Nhien Garden, to large-scale projects such as the solar power system of Scavi or the use of recycled fibers in production of Huegatex, it has been shown that the spirit of "greening" is spreading strongly in the Hue business community. These are not just individual initiatives, but are forming a green development flow, where tourism, services and industry share the same growth direction along with social responsibility and environmental protection.
According to the Department of Finance, up to now, the city has nearly 6,400 operating enterprises, of which more than 97% are small and medium enterprises. Enterprises mainly operate in the field of trade and services with 65.7%; industry and construction account for 31%; agriculture, forestry and fishery 2.3%. The private economic sector accounts for about 48% of GRDP, contributing about 40% of total local budget revenue and creating jobs for nearly 115,000 workers in the area, making an important contribution to economic growth, increasing people's income and effectively participating in solving social problems. Currently, more and more businesses are proactively investing in technological innovation, digital transformation and applying green production and business models to improve competitiveness, reduce emissions and move towards sustainable development. These figures and movements show that the Hue business community is becoming an important driving force to promote economic growth, increase people's income and contribute to ensuring social security... |
