De Gea is happy.

The Spanish goalkeeper shared his decision to join Fiorentina in an interview with DAZN on March 19th.

"I've always dreamed of playing in Serie A," De Gea said. "As soon as I heard Fiorentina contacted me, I immediately felt a connection with the club. Everything happened very quickly and I'm really happy here."

Before making his final decision, De Gea revealed he had a conversation with Marcos Alonso, a close friend who used to play for Fiorentina. “I called Marcos. He said many good things about the club, the fans, and the city. I had already made up my mind, and Marcos’s words made me even more certain,” De Gea said.

At 34 years old, De Gea has proven himself to be one of Fiorentina's standout players. The team is just 3 points away from qualifying for next season's European competitions. This achievement is partly due to De Gea's consistency. Currently, he has 9 clean sheets in Serie A, placing him among the top 7 most effective goalkeepers in the league.

Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino heaped praise on De Gea: “He reacts and makes saves like he’s only 20 years old. I feel a great sense of unity and team spirit has been created. The form of players like De Gea gives the whole team more confidence.”

Fiorentina are very pleased with De Gea's performances and are ready to extend his contract. Gazzetta reports that the Italian club may increase De Gea's salary in the new contract.
