According to United Nations (UN) statistics, approximately 8 million tons of plastic waste are dumped into the ocean each year, causing the death of over 100,000 marine creatures. In many major cities, air pollution is at alarming levels, with around 7 million premature deaths each year due to air pollution (according to the World Health Organization). Every year, the world's forest area decreases by about 10 million hectares (according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization), equivalent to 27 football fields disappearing every minute. Currently, more than 2.2 billion people worldwide lack access to clean water (according to the UNICEF). Each year, approximately 1.8 million children die from waterborne diseases. We are witnessing the horrific consequences of environmental destruction: Climate change is leading to rising global temperatures, melting ice, rising sea levels, and more than 20 million people are displaced each year due to natural disasters (according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees). Floods, droughts, tsunamis, and wildfires are becoming increasingly common and severe phenomena.
These numbers carry weight in the message delivered by the students of class 6A1 , Tan Tien Secondary School, at the experiential communication session organized by the school. Mai Tan Phat, a member of the class's presentation group, shared: "We cannot live without a green and clean environment! What will life be like if one day clean water becomes a luxury and air becomes something that can only be bought with money? If we don't act now, future generations will no longer have the opportunity to correct the mistakes we are making. We have researched information from reliable sources on social media, combined with knowledge from textbooks, to create the most valuable messages to send to all students in the school as well as everyone else. Let's change now, starting today, with the smallest actions to save the earth."
Through experiential activities, students of Tan Tien Secondary School in Dong Phu district sent out many messages about protecting the environment and the planet.
Each class has a different theme, story, and message, but they all share a common goal: to raise awareness among students in the school and spread the message about protecting the earth. Student Tran Thanh Lam shared: "Every day, we see plastic waste on the streets, black canals, and the air becomes heavy with smoke, dust, and pollution. As a student, I will take concrete actions such as participating in school awareness campaigns and green activities, specifically collecting garbage in the neighborhood, using recyclable products more often, not littering, and sorting waste properly."
Each story and message from the students reflects their awareness of protecting the environment and beautiful landscapes.
“Environmental protection is always a priority for the school, and we regularly educate and raise awareness among all students. Throughout the school year, many related activities are implemented, and the development of practical experience programs helps students translate knowledge into concrete actions within the school and the community. From there, each student becomes an active advocate to their parents and many others in society, joining hands in the task of protecting the environment,” emphasized Mr. Vu Van Bac, Vice Principal of Tan Tien Secondary School.
Protecting the environment is not the responsibility of any one person, but of everyone. Every small action we take, such as not littering, planting trees, saving water, and limiting the use of plastic products, are important steps in the journey to protect the Earth. And what the children learned and understood in today's experiential activity is very useful in their daily lives, so that they themselves will become "little heroes" on the environmental front, joining hands to protect our green planet. Each small action, when performed by millions of people, will create a big change.
