The above information was mentioned by Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu when talking to the press on the sidelines of the first meeting of the National Wage Council, which took place on the morning of June 26.
Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu said that in principle, the National Wage Council should meet earlier. However, in order to share the difficulties of a number of businesses and create a common momentum for national development, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor agreed to postpone the negotiation time.
Regarding the specific minimum wage increase, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu said that he will propose a harmonious direction, ensuring the rights of workers, while at the same time creating conditions for businesses to have the opportunity to recover and develop in the current difficult period.
" We will continue to negotiate, but we may propose that the salary increase be applied earlier than January 1, 2026, because this is related to the issuance of the decree. The common wish of workers is still an early increase ," Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu emphasized.
The Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor added that there is currently no specific decision on the increase. However, the parties will calculate and choose to come up with a reasonable level, consistent with price fluctuations in the market, while still ensuring the payment capacity of the enterprise.
Currently, the Government regulates the minimum wage for employees working under labor contracts according to Decree No. 74/2024, effective from July 1, 2024 to present.

The minimum hourly wage in region I is 23,800 VND/hour; region II is 21,200 VND/hour; region III is 18,600 VND/hour; region IV is 16,600 VND/hour.
