The 2025 high school graduation exam is for students following the 2018 general education program. Students will take two compulsory exams, Math and Literature, along with two elective exams, which are subjects in the 2018 general education program: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology and Foreign Languages (English, German, Russian, Japanese, French, Chinese, Korean).
Literature continues to be tested in essay format, with a time limit of 120 minutes. However, from this year, the test will use materials other than textbooks, and there will be changes in the score distribution for the Reading Comprehension (4 points) and Writing (6 points) sections. In previous years, the scores for these sections were Reading Comprehension (3 points) and Writing (7 points).

According to Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training , the 2025 high school graduation exam closely follows the content of the General Education Program, mainly the 12th grade program, but may also include knowledge from grades 11 and 10.

“The exam is not outside the curriculum, the question ratio according to the levels of knowledge, understanding, and application is 4:3:3. In addition, the exam also enhances the connection and application of knowledge and skills with practice, especially with differentiated content to properly assess students' abilities,” said Deputy Director Nguyen Ngoc Ha.
The Ministry of Education and Training previously announced sample questions to help candidates get familiar with the new exam format structure, so that through review, candidates can identify their strengths and weaknesses and improve their test-taking performance.
