In September 2012, flash floods swept from upstream to the mountainous area of Lang Chanh ( Thanh Hoa ) that often suffers from natural disasters. Information about the number of missing and injured people, the number of houses swept away, properties and crops submerged in water was updated, urging the "Tin Tuc people" to make their first trip to the lives of those still in difficulty. Then, with a journey of more than a decade of "Accompanying the difficult areas" , Tin Tuc Newspaper became a bridge of goodwill, a red address for messages and sharing.

The hard to love area

“We will gather all available resources and those from sponsors and leave tomorrow morning. The difficult areas cannot wait! ” - a journey of continuous social activities by journalists - which at that time had not yet been specifically named, officially began with the decision in early September 2012 of the Editor-in-Chief of Tin Tuc Newspaper, Le Duy Truyen.

At that time, from September 1 to 7, 2012, flash floods swept from upstream, killing 2 people in Lang Chanh district and injuring 2 others. Floodwaters also swept away 30 houses, collapsed 44 houses, submerged 300 houses, and completely damaged people's property and crops...

As soon as the flood receded, on the morning of September 13, the volunteer group “Accompanying the difficult areas” was present in Lang Chanh town and Tam Van commune (Lang Chanh district). Here, the meetings and gift giving of rice and cash to representatives of households affected by historic floods took place warmly and full of emotion. Lang Chanh land marked the beginning of a continuous, systematic and practical sharing journey of Tin Tuc Newspaper.

The journey "Accompanying the difficult areas" brought the volunteer group to many other difficult areas in the S-shaped strip of land. That is Rao Tre village, Huong Lien commune, Huong Khe district (Ha Tinh) with 33 households and 131 people of the Chut ethnic group living. The village is not only geographically isolated, the Chut ethnic group in the village also lacks facilities, economic production conditions as well as the people's daily life still faces many difficulties. Here, the volunteer group gave gifts of milk and cash to help the people ease their difficulties.

They are Xin Chai Primary and Secondary Boarding School and B Primary School, Minh Tan Commune, Vi Xuyen District ( Ha Giang ) - where the winter is cold, sometimes down to 3 degrees Celsius...

These are the Medical Center of Co To Island District (Quang Ninh), Bach Long Vy Island District General Hospital (Hai Phong). These are all medical treatment facilities that are still lacking means and equipment to provide emergency care and treatment for fishermen fishing at sea due to frequent machinery breakdowns due to environmental conditions and high salinity. Therefore, “Accompanying the difficult areas” presented a gift from the sponsor, which is a fluorescent immunoassay system (i-CHROMA) - diagnosing and identifying a number of disease groups such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, hormone disorders, etc.

These are schools in the northernmost regions of the country such as Ho Quang Phin Primary Boarding School and Ho Quang Phin Secondary School in Dong Van District and Pai Lung Primary Boarding School in Meo Vac District (Ha Giang); Nam Muoi Boarding School in Van Chan District (Yen Bai); and village schools for Dao, Tay, and Mong ethnic students in Lam Binh District - the poorest district in Tuyen Quang Province... Here, the gifts are books, school supplies, and scholarships that contribute to "helping" students go to school.

We hit the road together

As one of the first contributors to the idea of “Accompanying the difficult areas”, Ms. Ninh Hong Nga - Editor-in-Chief of Tin Tuc Newspaper recalls: “Going to the difficult areas, the whole volunteer group did not hesitate to roll up their pants, wade through the mud, walk on mountain roads, carry gifts when the roads were muddy, small, and vehicles could not enter; it was happiness when people waited, it was tears when seeing children’s feet without sandals… Each journey gave us a lot, we also received a lot of companionship and support from businesses, philanthropists, family, and friends. Up to now, the “Tin Tuc people” are proud that “Accompanying the difficult areas” has become a brand associated with the social activities of journalists” .

For reporter Nguyen Thu Trang, the "Accompanying " trip with students of Nam Muoi Ethnic Boarding School, Van Chan district (Yen Bai) became an unforgettable memory.

Recalling the trip in 2013, Trang said: “The trip to Nam Muoi was very special because it mobilized all the members and youth of Tin Tuc Newspaper. Because the road to Nam Muoi was very difficult to travel, goods and gifts were given priority to be brought in by car first. The volunteer team arrived in Nam Muoi by motorbike when it was late afternoon. Thanks to that, we were extremely moved when witnessing the meals of teachers and students here, which were mainly vegetables. It was rare to see a lunch box with stir-fried pork intestines and bamboo shoots. Many people in the group were unable to take pictures of those images. When we returned, we missed and loved them even more.”

The pride of the members of Tin Tuc newspaper has ignited the fire of volunteerism in the collective of journalists.
