By 2040, AI will contribute 120-130 billion USD to Vietnam's economy

Information from the Announcement Ceremony of the Report "Vietnam's AI Economy 2025" organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC - under the Ministry of Finance) in coordination with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) this morning, June 12, 2025 in Hanoi clearly stated: By 2040, AI will become a core factor in Vietnam's economic growth, contributing 120-130 billion USD to the economy.

According to the Vietnam AI Economy 2025 Report, the two main growth drivers that will help AI make a major contribution to Vietnam's economy by 2040 are: Revenue from consumption (45-55 billion USD) through consumption of products and services with AI applications and cost savings of 60-70 billion USD due to increased productivity thanks to the use of technology.

The report analyzes in depth the current state of Vietnam's AI economy, generalizes into models and details for each field; points out the AI ​​strategy and roadmap with 3 goals and 5 main pillars, with AI application fields, startup ecosystem, human resources, resources... In particular, the Report provides important, practical strategic recommendations as well as a vision for Vietnam's AI ecosystem.

Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, Director of the National Innovation Center, stated: The Party and State of Vietnam have had many important policies and decisions, such as Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, Resolution 68 on private economic development of the Politburo , Resolution 193 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of special mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, etc.

To realize the above policies and guidelines, under the strong direction of the Ministry of Finance , the National Innovation Center has coordinated with JICA to develop the Report "Vietnam AI Economy 2025".

The Vietnam AI Economy 2025 Report is the result of effective cooperation between NIC - JICA and BCG, the first document to provide a comprehensive picture of the AI ​​economy in Vietnam, providing some international experiences and lessons for AI development and analyzing opportunities in key economic sectors, proposing development pillars for the AI ​​economy. This will be a useful reference document, helping central and local state management agencies, organizations, businesses, and individuals build roadmaps, plans, and solutions for development, as well as application of AI technology.

Following that cooperation, NIC will work with JICA DXLab to implement the AI ​​Startup Acceleration Program in Vietnam in the coming time to support early-stage startups to improve their capacity, access the market, attract investment and gradually build internal strength for the innovation ecosystem in the field of AI in Vietnam.
