Muong Lan sticky rice is grown in 5 lowland villages, including: Muong Lan, Cong, Kha, Phieng Pen and Na Khi. The popular sticky rice varieties are tan hin, tan nhe, tan lo, tan nuong. Talking about this rice variety, Mr. Duong Thanh Phuc, Head of the Economic Department of Muong Lan commune, shared: The local sticky rice variety has large, plump, long grains, is planted on an area of over 90 hectares, accounting for about 32% of the commune's rice growing area, with a yield of over 360 tons/year. This rice variety is planted from mid-June, from planting to harvest takes about 4-5 months, and is a pest-resistant rice variety. In particular, from flowering to harvest, the fields always exude a characteristic fragrant aroma.
At this time, farmers in Muong Lan are focusing on harvesting sticky rice with a yield of about 4-4.5 tons/ha, the rate of rice achieved after milling is higher than other types of rice, the average selling price is 25 thousand VND/kg of rice, higher than other types of sticky rice. To have a bumper crop, right from the beginning of the season, Muong Lan commune has proactively built a production plan, guided people to sow and plant on time, and selected good varieties for production. Along with that, the commune prioritizes capital sources to build and repair irrigation works, ensuring water sources for irrigation for rice fields.

We came to the golden sticky rice fields in Muong Lan village, the plump, golden grains were tied into bundles waiting for threshing. Mr. Lo Van Ban, Muong Lan village, said: My family has more than 1.5 hectares of rice fields, of which 1 hectare is planted with sticky rice, a rice variety that has been passed down for many generations with delicious quality. This year's output reached more than 3.5 tons of rice, in addition to family consumption, more than 2 tons of rice were sold to pay for the children's schooling.
In the life of the Thai people in Muong Lan, sticky rice is an indispensable food in daily meals, processed into many dishes, of which sticky rice is the most popular. Sticky rice is always the best type of sticky rice among the rice grown in Muong Lan commune. Sticky rice is steamed from sticky rice in a wooden steamer on a wood stove, from morning to night, still retaining its stickiness, sweetness, and characteristic aroma. The surface of the sticky rice has a layer of oil that creates an attractive fatty taste. Because of its delicious quality and price, although the yield is lower than other types of rice, families still reserve their own fields to grow sticky rice as seeds for the following crops. And consider this a precious specialty to entertain guests or give as gifts or wrap banh chung on holidays and Tet.

Maintaining and conserving the local sticky rice variety in Muong Lan commune is a key orientation in local agricultural development. In the coming time, the commune will strengthen coordination with specialized sectors to effectively carry out the restoration and selection of sticky rice varieties, aiming to promote the planning of growing areas, build the Muong Lan sticky rice brand, and contribute to increasing people's income.
