Young man struck dead by lightning while on honeymoon

While on his honeymoon, the 29-year-old man unfortunately died from being struck by lightning.

According to People, the tragic incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on June 20 in Florida, USA. Local authorities said that while standing at New Smyrna Beach, Jake Rosencranz, 29 years old from Colorado, was struck by lightning.

WSVN reported that a nearby nurse who witnessed the incident immediately provided first aid to the patient while emergency responders arrived at the scene. Jake was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died the next morning.

It is known that the accident happened when Jake was on his honeymoon with his wife.

"Our sincere condolences go out to Jake's family," Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote in a Facebook post.

Earlier in the day, two other people were also struck by lightning while playing golf at the Venetian Bay golf course but were fortunately not seriously injured.

Heavy rains fell in central Florida on June 20 and more than 170 lightning strikes were reported in the area, according to FOX 35. The state records an average of 1.2 million lightning strikes each year, according to the Florida Department of Health .
