The film "Tunnel: Sun in the Dark" by director Bui Thac Chuyen received many compliments from insiders and positive reviews on social networking platforms.

On the evening of March 31, a special screening of the film "Tunnels: Sun in the Dark" for the media and guests in Ho Chi Minh City received positive feedback. The film's story about young guerrillas who stuck to the tunnels, fought with all their might, and were ready to sacrifice for the Fatherland, won over viewers.

Honoring love of country

"Tunnels: Sun in the Dark" is set in 1967, when the Vietnam War was at its peak. The 21-man guerrilla team led by Bay Theo at Binh An Dong base became a "search and destroy" target for the US military when they were assigned to protect a new strategic intelligence group that had just taken refuge at the base at all costs.

The members of the guerrilla team were very young, they lived together, stuck to the tunnels, and tried to complete the assigned tasks. They were ordinary boys and girls with dreams of love like everyone else. However, when facing the enemy, in the midst of bullets, they were ready to sacrifice for the common love, the love of the Fatherland.

The film conveys the spirit of young soldiers, cinematically portraying a seemingly dry historical story, helping viewers understand the hardships and difficulties of living and fighting inside the tunnels. Battles, anti-tank battles, bombing warships, etc. are depicted quite realistically, creating the necessary heroism of a war film.

After watching the film, insiders gave many compliments to director Bui Thac Chuyen and his crew.

"Tunnel: Sun in the Dark" is a film that is completely in line with the spirit of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. I hope the film will receive support from audiences, including international audiences, to spread the image and spirit of the people and country of Vietnam" - producer - actress Dinh Ngoc Diep emotionally said after attending the premiere.

Also present in the auditorium, director Ly Minh Thang shared that there was a line in the film that he really liked but could only remember the general idea: "This (tunnel) is a people's war, and if it is a people's war, the enemy can never win."

According to him, the tunnel guerrillas were all ordinary people who became extraordinary in adversity. Even in a dangerous direct confrontation scene, he still saw a small girl who was a hundred times stronger than a tall, battle-hardened American soldier. The film's plot was thrilling, dramatic, and had many emotional and proud scenes.

Yes and no

In addition to the compliments for the crew for creating beautiful, emotional images, the director and screenwriter's choice of aspects to tell also contributed greatly to making the film memorable. "I admire the way the film tells a story about the war in a very realistic and vivid way... There are tragic but heroic scenes, cruel but still imbued with patriotism. A heroic page of history is written with a unique, authentic and simple cinematic language, worthy of reaching out to the international level..." - director - Meritorious Artist Nguyen Phuong Dien commented.

Meanwhile, Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy said that "Tunnels: Sun in the Dark" brought many emotions when watching. "Director Bui Thac Chuyen has a good way of telling the story. The guerrillas fighting in the tunnels are close and real. They are described as ordinary people, without exaggeration, living and fighting in the tunnels as familiar as their breath.

I cried because of the emotions the film brought. The admiration and pride in the heroic war of the previous generation" - Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy said.

Actress Kieu Trinh said the film was very touching, bringing a sense of national pride. She was restless and thought a lot after watching the film. It is a worthy achievement and hopes that the work will be able to be exported, so that international audiences can enjoy and understand more about the Vietnamese people as well as our nation's war to protect the Fatherland.

However, like many other works, "Tunnel: Sun in the Dark" still has some regrets and imperfections. That is, the film has not created an overwhelming emotion that leaves a deep impression on the audience. All the characters are well portrayed, but because there are many character lines, they are disjointed and do not have enough time to push the emotions to a climax... "My small regret is that the cai luong segment should have been sung more sweetly. I know that to make that segment sweeter, the director also had many solutions, but he chose to respect the original performance of the actors" - Meritorious Artist Hanh Thuy commented.

Many expect the film to win over audiences, especially young people, creating momentum for filmmakers to promote the production of historical, war or historical films.

"Tunnel: Sun in the Dark" brings together the cast: Thai Hoa, Quang Tuan, Ho Thu Anh, Meritorious Artist Cao Minh... The film will officially be released in theaters from April 4.
