With their love, the "Godmothers" have brought love, soothed pain, and become a support for poor children and orphans to have more motivation to overcome difficulties and rise up in life.
At the innocent age like many of his peers, adversity suddenly made Tran Xuan Dinh (born 2005, residing in Truong An village, Dai Quang commune) lose both his father and mother at the same time.
Everyone was saddened and heartbroken by the tragic situation when, in just 3 months, Dinh had to endure the pain of losing the only two supports in his life. Dinh's mother passed away after a serious illness; Dinh's father was sad, then coughed a lot, and a few months later also died of lung disease.
This pain had not yet subsided, another pain came, it seemed that the boy had no more strength to endure. The level 4 house was desolate as he was alone beside two altars filled with incense smoke. The family incident turned Dinh from a cheerful, active boy into a quieter boy, because he knew the road ahead was full of hardships and difficulties. In addition to studying at school, Dinh roamed around on his old bicycle, doing whatever people in the village asked him to do to earn extra money to support his life.
Understanding Dinh’s loss and difficulties, the Women’s Union of Dai Quang commune has accepted to be her “Godmother” with a support of 300,000 VND/month. The union also mobilized benefactors to donate necessities such as rice, instant noodles, books, bicycles, etc. to share the difficulties and encourage Dinh to excel in his studies.
With the motto "Where there are orphans, there are godmothers", the Women's Union of Dai Loc district has developed a plan to deploy the "Godmother" model to 100% of the association's facilities. The support level ranges from 300 thousand VND to 1 million VND/child/month, the support period is from 3 to 5 years. The association also encourages agencies, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to sponsor children up to 18 years old.
The case of Nguyen Le Anh Thi (born in 2010, residing in Phu Hoa village, Dai An commune) is no less unfortunate. In 2018, her parents went to Gia Lai to buy melons to sell for Tet, when they reached Lo Xo pass (Kon Tum), the car overturned, her mother died on the spot, her father was seriously injured and broke both legs. Since then, Thi's father's spirit and health have weakened, and he is no longer able to work to support his three siblings' education.
In early 2019, the Women's Union of Dai An commune acted as a "Godmother" to give Thi the opportunity to continue her studies with a support of 1 million VND/month. The union also mobilized benefactors to support necessities, give her school bags, books, clothes, bicycles; regularly visit and teach her housework, knowledge, and self-protection skills. Since then, Thi and her family's life has become less difficult.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nho, Thi's father, was touched by the care and affection of the Women's Union and the community for his family. He shared: "The "Godmother" model has helped my child have the conditions to develop like his peers, to be shared, encouraged, taught, and advised on good things and the right things. I am very grateful and hope that the program will be expanded, bringing smiles and happiness to children."
