Spearhead in disaster prevention and control
In the days after the flood, Hue City was littered with mud and accumulated garbage. While the floodwaters had not yet receded, the green-shirted soldiers of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department (PCCC&CNCH) of Hue City Police were present at "hot spots" such as Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Huong River Theater, Ho Chi Minh Museum... to clean up.
Lieutenant Colonel Phan Van Lau, Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, emphasized: “After the days of floods, Hue people have suffered a lot of damage both materially and spiritually. Joining hands to overcome the consequences and clean up the environment is not only a task but also a responsibility and sentiment of the People's Police soldiers towards the people. The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police force is always present in all circumstances to support the people to soon stabilize their lives and make Hue City cleaner, more beautiful and peaceful.”
Before and during the floods, police officers were also present in dangerous areas to evacuate people and transport assets to safety. During the recent floods, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Hue City Police quickly established 17 working groups with hundreds of officers and soldiers and mobilized 17 water vehicles, 5 fire trucks and rescue vehicles on duty 24/7 to respond promptly. Thereby, they supported more than 1,500 people in dangerous areas, brought more than 300 elderly people, children and pregnant women from deep flooded areas to safety, brought 59 critically ill patients to the emergency room and received nearly 50 people for shelter, provided food, clothes and safe resting places.
Major Tran Trong Bang, Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Hue City Police, shared: “We have arranged working groups throughout the city to deploy timely rescue operations for people. There are some areas that are difficult to access due to strong currents, we have come up with plans and deployed effective means to promptly support people to shelters as well as ensure the safety of the rescue forces.”
Colonel Duong Van Thoan, Deputy Director of Hue City Police, said that right from the beginning of the flood season, the City Police Department has proactively deployed disaster prevention and control plans at the highest level. With the motto "4 on-site", police units and localities have been proactively assigned specific tasks, "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every household" to promptly support people.
Do not let people suffer hunger and cold
During the recent peak of floods, the Hue City Police Department has thoroughly implemented the directive spirit of "Do not let people suffer from hunger or cold. By all means, the police force must approach each household, support food, accommodation, rescue, and work with the people to overcome the consequences of storms and floods".
From inner-city wards to outlying and remote communes, working groups of Hue City Police have all been deployed regardless of the pouring rain and mud. At the Phu Xuan Ward Police Headquarters on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, more than 30 affected people have been provided with temporary accommodation, hot meals, and drinking water. The soldiers take turns on duty, supporting the people with the best conditions so that no one has to go hungry or cold during the long night after the flood.
In deeply flooded areas such as Hung Loc commune, Phu Vinh and Thanh Thuy ward, soldiers went to each heavily flooded house, handing out meals, water bottles, medicine...
Since then, dozens of letters, hundreds of comments and shares on social networks from people have been sent to the Hue City Police force to express their admiration and gratitude for their spirit of dedication and selflessness for the people. Ms. Le Trinh, representative of Hue Classic Hotel (Vy Da ward) shared: "After receiving the call for help, the staff quickly arrived, overcame heavy rain and rising floodwaters to bring each lunch box and each portion of necessities to everyone. The image of the staff rolling in the rushing water really moved us."
In the neatly written letter of 8 students who came to Hue City to study from far away from home, it was written: “Thank you to the police officers who created conditions for us to take shelter during the recent flood. Although we were strangers, you were like fathers and uncles - warm, friendly, close, and caring for us.”
This simple but emotional letter shows the image of a People's Public Security soldier who, in any circumstances, is always a solid support, full of human affection in the hearts of the People. This is also a great source of encouragement, adding strength to each officer and soldier of Hue City Police to continue the journey of preserving peace, sharing with the People in all difficulties.
| During the recent peak flood season, Hue City Police mobilized 18,300 officers; 22,000 security forces at the grassroots level, along with more than 5,100 canoes and rubber boats; 4,100 cars; 660 rescue vehicles, fire trucks, ladder trucks, and thousands of rescue equipment. Thereby, more than 3,600 households/9,800 people were evacuated to safe places and about 7,000 boxes of instant noodles, 10,500 meals, 6,200 boxes of drinking water, and thousands of necessities of all kinds were distributed to people in isolated areas. |
