Durian price on September 11: Very bad development, Thai durian price continues to decrease sharply
Durian is becoming a hot commodity as it expands its export to the billion-people Chinese market. However, this industry is currently experiencing a situation of competition for purchase and sale, defaulting on deposits, price inflation, and market disruption.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that Vietnamese durian is not only focused on the Chinese market, but currently fresh Vietnamese durian has been exported to 24 markets.
In the first 8 months of 2023, the amount of fresh durian exported reached more than 300,000 tons. As for frozen durian, there are also 23 export markets. In 2023, Vietnam exported frozen durian to 10 markets. This proves that Vietnam's durian market is relatively diverse.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the strategy for agricultural and rural development is expressed through “cooperation – association – market”. Therefore, the durian industry must reorganize its sustainable industry structure, including the presence of both production and consumption.
If we want the industry to develop effectively, we must start from production, which means businesses must come to people right from the time of planting to guide and create trust.
Businesses need to imbue the business mindset that trading durian is not only for profit but also a responsibility to the national agriculture.
The new growing area code is only an encouragement and not a requirement, so in the future it will be a mandatory requirement; everything must follow standards and regulations, there will be no more spontaneity.

Some solutions to restore durian trees when damaged by red spiders
The scientific name of red spider is Tetranychus cinnabarinus Boisd with the family Tetranychidae, order Acarina. They have 5 stages of development: egg, larva, two stages of pupa and adult. Larvae are whitish, small, have 3 pairs of legs; while pupae and adults have 8 legs.
Spiders lay eggs on the surface of leaves, the eggs are round. Young and adult spiders use their beaks to prick the leaf tissue, creating tiny stings. The stings are initially pale white, then turn pale yellow. When the spider density is high, many stings are created, the stings link together into large patches, the entire leaf turns yellow. But the special thing is that they live and cause damage mostly on the upper surface of durian leaves and do not twist the leaves like they do on citrus trees.
Red spider mites thrive in hot, low humidity weather, have a high reproductive capacity, and a short life cycle. When heavily infected, leaves turn yellow and fall off, affecting the ability of durian trees to flower, set fruit, and nurture fruit.
To limit the damage and overcome the harmful effects of spiders on durian trees, it is necessary to apply the following solutions:
First: Identify symptoms and harmful objects.
From a distance, when you see the durian garden showing unusual signs of changing from shiny green to dark yellow, you should observe the leaves. If the tree is slightly infected, the leaves will be yellow. If you look at the upper side of the leaf from the side, you will see a layer of fine dust. This is the eggshell of a spider. Or you can cut the leaves and place them on a piece of white paper. Using your hand, you will see the spider fall onto the paper and move. It is necessary to fold the paper in half and rub it hard. There will be red streaks due to the spider's body being crushed to death. However, to see clearly, you must have a magnifying glass or microscope. Therefore, you need to survey the garden continuously, paying special attention during the dry season.
Second: Prevent and control harmful spiders.
+ In nature, harmful spiders are attacked by many natural enemies, such as small predatory spiders... It is necessary to create conditions for natural enemies to develop to limit the harmful effects of spiders.
+ Prune branches to create a canopy for an airy garden.
+ Fertilizing and watering properly helps plants stay healthy and increase their resistance. Watering can be done by spraying water to wash away spider mites clinging to parts of the plant and create moisture for natural enemies to develop, which will reduce the density of red spider mites.
+ When the spider density is high, use pesticides. However, because spiders have a very high resistance to pesticides, it is necessary to regularly rotate the following pesticides: Alfamite 15EC, SK EnSpray 99EC Mineral Oil, Kumulus 80WP... Spray evenly on both sides of the leaves and spray again 5 days later. If the garden is severely damaged, spray the pesticide 3 times for each new shoot growth in combination with pesticides to control planthoppers, the first time when the shoots just sprout, the second time when the shoots are in full bloom and the third time when the leaves are silk. When the tree bears fruit, it is also necessary to spray the pesticide 3 times, when the flower buds are in full bloom, about 1 week after fruit set and the third time 10 days later.
Third: Restore plants damaged by spider mites
Because spiders mainly damage leaves, this is an important part of the plant where nutrients are synthesized. Therefore, when leaves are damaged, it will greatly affect growth and development, so the work of restoring plants after spider damage is very important and can last for several months. In addition to increasing the amount of macronutrient fertilizer used as root fertilizer, it is necessary to supplement maximum micronutrients such as Mg, Zn, Mn... combined with spraying insecticide to quickly restore green color to the leaves.
