Ninh Binh Electricity strives to provide safe electricity supply in flood situation

Faced with rising flood waters, Ninh Binh Electricity has proactively taken measures to ensure the safety of the power grid system as well as provide electricity to serve people's lives and activities.

Currently, some localities of Nho Quan and Gia Vien districts are severely flooded, causing power supply interruptions. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Toan, Director of Gia Vien Power Company, said: Currently, the unit is having to temporarily stop supplying power to a part of customers in Gia Tien, Gia Thanh, Gia Thinh communes to ensure the safety of people's lives and the power grid system; in response to floods, the unit also regularly inspects the power line system, power poles, meter boxes, transformer stations to have plans to repair and upgrade damaged equipment in a timely manner; at the same time, prepare conditions so that when the water recedes, it will provide safe and stable power to the people again.

With a high sense of responsibility, in recent days, Ninh Binh Electricity has mobilized 100% of its staff, proactively on duty 24/7 to grasp the situation, prepare appropriate power cut-off plans, promptly prevent possible power incidents, and ensure safety for the people.

Immediately after the flood water exceeded the level 3 warning, the leaders of Ninh Binh Power Company directly went to the flooded areas to inspect and give timely instructions to ensure electrical safety, serving the lives and activities of the people. In particular, on the morning of September 12, the Director of Ninh Binh Power Company requested other affiliated Power units, each unit to send 10 officers and workers, fully equipped with tools, safety equipment, life jackets, flashlights to support Gia Vien Power Company and Nho Quan Power Company to promptly move the metering system to a higher place. Mr. Dinh Quang Thuan, Deputy Director of Ninh Binh Power Company, said: The Company is urgently reviewing and reinforcing the power grid system with the highest flood prevention spirit to ensure safety for people and electrical equipment.

Along with proactively ensuring electrical safety, Ninh Binh Electricity has increased inspections of transformer stations supplying electricity to pumping stations in the province, ensuring a safe and stable power source for pumping and drainage.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Toan, Director of Gia Vien Power Company, said: Up to now, Gia Vien Power Company is ensuring stable power supply for a total of 23 transformer stations/50 transformers with a total capacity of 12,050 kVA to serve flood drainage pumping and open sluice gates to regulate operations to protect the rice fields and aquaculture areas in the district. In the work of natural disaster prevention, control and search and rescue, the unit has periodically tested power lines and transformer stations supplying power to pumping stations; coordinated with the Gia Vien District Irrigation Works Branch to inspect the management and operation of medium-voltage power lines supplying power to flood drainage pumping stations, ensuring 24/24h power supply; checked the operating status of pumps of each pumping station, ensuring that the pumping stations operate safely and without incidents during the process of pumping water to prevent flooding.

It is known that, with the spirit of proactively responding to storms and floods, in previous years, Ninh Binh Electricity has proactively upgraded power lines, meter boxes, and transformer stations in areas frequently affected by floods in Gia Vien and Nho Quan districts to the highest level. Therefore, up to now, power lines and meters in these areas have not been flooded, ensuring good operation. Before each storm season, the electricity sector has also replaced, reinforced, and repaired degraded power systems. At the same time, it has increased inspection, propaganda, warning, and support for people to ensure electrical safety in deep flooded areas.

Faced with the complicated and unpredictable developments of the flood situation, in the coming time, Ninh Binh Power Company will continue to strengthen its on-call duty at key locations, proactively arrange forces and means at the highest level, and be ready to promptly handle any arising situations. After the flood recedes, Ninh Binh Power Company will promptly re-inspect the entire low-voltage power grid. When safety is ensured, it will notify the people and local authorities and turn on the power again to serve the lives and activities of the people.

However, to ensure electrical safety, in addition to the proactive efforts of the electricity industry, Ninh Binh Electricity Company recommends that when flooding occurs at home, people need to move electrical wires, sockets, and electrical equipment in the house to a higher place than the usual flood level; turn off the main circuit breaker in the house when flood water reaches the yard or floor; stay away when seeing electric poles and power stations at risk of flooding and call the nearest electricity company for handling; when streets and houses are flooded, do not move or travel by ship, boat, or raft in flooded areas with electric wires close to the water surface (at least 3 meters away); do not come into contact with power grid equipment (electrical cabinets, wires, electric poles, power stations, etc.). Absolutely do not fish with electrical equipment when ponds, lakes, or streets are flooded.
