On October 4, Nghia Hanh Commune Police ( Nghe An Province) announced that the unit had just received a relief gift for flood victims from Mrs. Tran Thi Que (72 years old, residing in Dong Du hamlet, Nghia Hanh Commune). The small gift consisted of only 20kg of rice but moved the witnesses.

Accordingly, on the evening of October 3, Ms. Que cycled more than 5km from her house to the commune police headquarters, carrying a 20kg bag of rice. “My house was also flooded, but today the water has receded, so I can cycle. I don’t have much, so I would like to contribute 20kg of rice and ask you to send it to our people who are being flooded,” Ms. Que said while wiping her sweat after the long cycling journey.

Nghia Hanh commune was newly merged from Nghia Hanh, Phu Son and Tan Huong communes (Tan Ky district). The Con River flows through the commune for 30km. Due to the impact of storm No. 10 (Bualoi), since the night of September 29, heavy rains and floodwaters from upstream have flooded 18 out of 21 hamlets in Nghia Hanh. In many hamlets, the water level rose 8m, submerging houses.

"People say this is the biggest flood ever, they have never seen water rising so fast and fiercely. Most households suffered heavy damage, many people had to sit on their roofs waiting for rescue," said Mr. Phan Duc Quang - Vice Chairman of Nghia Hanh Commune People's Committee.

“When I received this special gift, I was very moved, I sympathized with Mrs. Que and the people in the commune affected by the flood. 20kg of rice at this time not only has the meaning of simple material help, but also the spirit of sharing, mutual love and support of the people in the flood area”, Captain Nguyen Trong Giang - Head of Nghia Hanh Commune Police shared.
