Investigating the cause of Vietjet flight skidding off the runway

On May 10, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (Ministry of Transport) Uong Viet Dung said that authorities are investigating the cause of the Vietjet flight that skidded off the runway at Tan Son Nhat airport on May 7.

Scene of the incident

Initial information, the time of the incident of flight number VJ1149, Airbus A320, registration number VN-A666 of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company was at 5:30 p.m., the weather conditions were rainy, visibility was about 6,000m and gradually decreased to 1,500m when the plane landed, crosswind speed was below 18.5km/h. After touching the ground, the plane deviated to the right of the runway centerline, then returned to the runway and taxied to the parking lot safely. The results of the on-site inspection showed that two tires of the right main landing gear rolled out of the grass edge and broke a 25R runway curb light.

After the incident, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requested Vietjet Air to temporarily suspend the operation of VN-A666 aircraft for a comprehensive technical inspection and investigation. The Authority also established an Aircraft Incident Investigation Team as prescribed to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
