Marine economy is one of the strengths, with many potentials that Vinh Long province focuses on developing. |
Identify new growth potential
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, before the merger, each locality had its own potential and strengths. In particular, Vinh Long province (old) played the role of a regional logistics and light industry center with large industrial parks and clusters such as Hoa Phu and Binh Minh.
There is a fairly complete system of supermarkets and markets; the My Thuan-Can Tho expressway, National Highway 1, National Highway 53 connect the East-West expressway and the North-South expressway, creating conditions for fast circulation of goods, connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta.
Meanwhile, Ben Tre province is the coconut capital of the country with 79,000 hectares. If Tra Vinh is included with an additional 27,400 hectares, Vinh Long province currently has more than 106,000 hectares of coconut, leading in deep processing and exporting coconut products, bringing the turnover to over 1 billion USD/year.
In addition, industrial zones such as Giao Long and An Hiep strongly attract FDI investment in processing and producing handicrafts for export. In addition, Tra Vinh province also stands out as a center for clean energy and marine economy.
After the merger, the province is commercially operating a total capacity of 5,416 MW of power plants, of which 918 MW is generated from renewable energy sources, with a total electricity output of about 30 billion kWh/year, creating a value equivalent to VND 24,300 billion/year.
In particular, Dinh An-Tra Cu Seaport and Dinh An Economic Zone are forming a coastal logistics network, creating advantages for the circulation of goods, especially the production of large-scale agricultural and aquatic products for export.
The province currently has 6 commercial centers, 1 shopping mall, 16 supermarkets, 141 convenience stores and more than 400 traditional markets, of which 19 markets meet food safety standards. Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in 2025 is estimated to reach 660,000 billion VND, a very impressive figure, reflecting the pivotal role of the trade sector in the regional economic structure.
Promoting regional cooperation and attracting investment
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said that after the merger, the industry and trade sector of Vinh Long province will not only inherit the strengths of each locality, but will also be raised to a new level, with enough capacity to become a processing center, energy center and commercial center of the entire Southwest region. Accordingly, the industry and trade sector will advise the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to direct and focus on synchronous implementation of key development orientations.
According to Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Vinh Long province orients industrial development towards sustainability, greenness and modernity, focusing on developing specialized industrial clusters and zones, prioritizing agricultural and aquatic product processing, mechanics, supporting industries, and electricity and electronics.
Next, promote investment in clean, low-emission industries, switch to renewable energy, and apply 4.0 technology in production. In particular, develop supporting industries to create a domestic supply platform and link with major production centers in the region. Invite supporting industrial production enterprises to serve the renewable energy industry of Vinh Long province and the entire Mekong Delta region.
In addition, the province accelerates digital transformation in management and trade activities, building a database platform for the industry and trade sector. Focusing on developing e-commerce associated with key agricultural products, expanding consumption through trading floors and supermarket chains...
From these orientations, Vinh Long aims to form an inter-provincial supply chain coordination center, connecting production, distribution and consumption.
Industrial production continues to be stable and growing. |

“The provincial industry and trade sector focuses on promoting regional cooperation and selectively attracting investment. Proactively connecting and developing the industrial and trade supply chain with Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and the Southeast region. At the same time, building a set of criteria and a list of priority projects calling for investment, with transparent and synchronous support policies,” said Mr. Tuan.
Along with that, building a team, perfecting the industry apparatus after the merger to meet the requirements in the new period. At the same time, promoting training and fostering of staff, improving modern management capacity and handling inter-industry situations to proactively integrate internationally, supporting the province's enterprises to develop and expand production and business.
“The Vinh Long industry and trade sector will accompany businesses, taking the effectiveness of serving people and businesses as a measure; taking digitalization as a tool and regional connectivity as a solution, etc. The whole sector will be proactive, creative, and innovative to contribute positively to the province's GRDP growth and make valuable contributions to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region,” Mr. Tuan emphasized.
