Jota scored the most important goal of his career in April

Liverpool have just released the documentary “Champions 24-25: The Inside Story” – recreating the journey to the Premier League title in the 2024/25 season. But what makes the film more special and haunting than ever is that it is dedicated to Diogo Jota, the late Portuguese player, with previously unreleased footage and words.

Jota’s final interview with the Merseyside club is interspersed with images and words from teammates Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister, taken just days before he died in a car crash in Spain in July, while travelling back to the UK with his brother.

Jota reflects on the significance of a season in which he battled through persistent injuries, but still managed to produce a defining moment: the winning goal against Everton in April. It not only brought Liverpool closer to the title, but also proved to be the last goal of his career.

“It was a very difficult season, but I always fought. I helped the team that day and I felt proud. It’s hard to describe… That’s why you dedicate your whole life and all your efforts for moments like that – moments that decide an important match. As a striker, there’s nothing better than scoring a goal. It’s all worth it when you keep looking for those moments,” Jota said, his eyes shining with happiness and pride.

Jota passed away at a young age.

At the end of the season, Jota lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time - a title he once thought was "unthinkable" when he was a child. After the League Cup and FA Cup with Liverpool, this was the pinnacle of the former Wolves striker's career. "When I was a kid, I just wanted to play in the Premier League, I never dared to imagine winning it. And then we did it," he said.

In an emotional finale, Jota reflects on the celebrations, his voice dropping: “Those pictures will be on display forever. It was an incredible achievement for a little guy from Gondomar – where I grew up with this dream. It’s a moment I will cherish forever, because it was so special.”

The film not only captures Liverpool's journey to the top, but also depicts the image of a resilient, resilient Diogo Jota who devoted himself to the red shirt. For fans, it is not simply a sports work - but also an emotional farewell to a warrior who passed away at the peak of his career.
