In just the last few years, the urban landscape of Mong Cai has changed dramatically. Roads have been widened, sidewalks have been renovated, and new, modern urban areas have sprung up. Technical infrastructure systems such as water supply and drainage, street lighting, waste collection, and wastewater treatment have all been invested in comprehensively.
The city has allocated significant resources to invest in key transportation infrastructure projects; socio- economic infrastructure projects, and agricultural and rural infrastructure projects. Simultaneously, it has expanded urban space, commercial and service centers, attracting domestic and foreign businesses to invest and operate, gradually filling the functional zoning plans within the Mong Cai border economic zone.
According to the urban development program until 2030, with a vision to 2040, the total investment for the city's basic technical infrastructure system is over 10,329 billion VND. Specifically, for the period up to 2025, investment resources will reach over 1,213 billion VND. Each year, the city invests hundreds of billions of VND in implementing urban development projects. Priority is given to renovating and upgrading existing urban technical infrastructure such as: constructing social welfare facilities; paving roads with asphalt; installing lighting systems, traffic lights and signs…
In 2025 alone, the city will commence construction on 4 new projects, finalize accounts for 37 projects, and continue work on 30 ongoing projects. Mr. Truong Cong Thanh, Deputy Director of the City's Investment and Construction Project Management Board, stated: “From the beginning of the year, the unit has assigned tasks to each supervisory officer, coordinating and urging construction units to focus manpower and machinery to accelerate the construction progress of projects so that they can be put into use as soon as possible. This will contribute to gradually improving the urban landscape of the city.”
Not content with just developing infrastructure, Mong Cai is also persistently striving to become a green, clean, and beautiful city with its own unique identity. Currently, the entire city has over 160 hectares of urban green space, with more than 30 parks, flower gardens, and a system of main green areas that are regularly maintained. The average green space area currently reaches approximately 11.2 m²/person, approaching the standard for a Type I urban area as stipulated. Notably, the city has completed 100% of the replacement of traditional streetlights with energy-saving LED lighting systems on main roads, ensuring both urban aesthetics and contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Environmental sanitation is also a top priority for the city. The city actively implements models of civilized neighborhoods and "green, clean, beautiful, and litter-free" streets. Weekend general environmental cleanup activities have become a regular practice in many neighborhoods. In residential areas, organizations such as women's associations, youth unions, and veterans' associations play a supervisory role and encourage residents to maintain cleanliness from alleyways and residential areas to public spaces. Inner-city areas and central streets are regularly watered and cleaned; garbage is collected daily, ensuring no accumulation of waste causes pollution.
Mr. Hoang Ba Nam, Secretary of the Mong Cai City Party Committee, stated: To realize this goal, the city is reviewing all indicators and criteria of a Type I urban area to focus resources and intellect on developing effective solutions. Specifically, Mong Cai is focusing on improving infrastructure; finalizing strategic plans for construction and landscape architecture to create a truly clean and civilized urban environment. Simultaneously, it is concentrating on building Mong Cai's urban culture based on the friendly and civilized nature of its people, using this as a strategy for socio-economic development.
