(CLO) The porcelain violin at the Hue Monuments Conservation Center is the fifth porcelain violin meticulously and elaborately handcrafted by artist and violin craftsman Nguyen Xuan Huy.

Artist Xuan Huy said that the porcelain violin work has 2 parts: the base and the main violin. The main violin is a complete violin, the size of a 4/4 violin (standard violin for adults), and can be removed from the work. The part plated with 9999 gold includes: the entire violin board, the ribs and small details on the neck.

"This is the fifth porcelain violin that I have personally and meticulously handcrafted. The base of the work is quite a long story," said artist Xuan Huy.

Talking about the idea of making the violin, artist Xuan Huy said: "Initially, I came up with the idea of making a porcelain violin as a gift for Hue with a picture of Trang Tien Bridge, Huong River, and Hue Ao Dai on the back of the violin. However, because this is a product that requires a very high level of difficulty in each stage of making, when the product was baked, the soundboard did not meet the strict specifications of the violin, so he decided to cancel it and start over. However, the second time the product was made, it also did not meet the requirements. When baked in the oven, the soundboard of the violin melted and stuck to a beautiful white porcelain vase."

At that time, artist Xuan Huy said he had the idea to create a very meaningful work of art: The flowing part of the instrument symbolizes the flow of time, and the completed instrument placed on a vase symbolizes the blossoming of artistic labor. And he rushed to create a complete instrument from a white enamel gourd in his porcelain instrument collection that he had made since 2017.

"From here, the 5th violin was completed, together with the above-mentioned base, creating this unique work. He named the work "Nam Mo A Di Da Phat - Namo Amitabha Buddha", artist Xuan Huy revealed.

On November 4, the final details of the work were completed by him at the Saigon Hotel (Hue). The next day, at the altar of King Gia Long, he presented this "one of a kind" instrument to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center in a very solemn ceremony with royal rituals.

Immediately afterwards, at Duyet Thi Duong Theater, he used this instrument to perform the work “White Summer” by the late musician Trinh Cong Son, before returning it to its place in the shrine of King Gia Long. Currently, the instrument is on display at Kien Trung Palace for visitors to admire.

According to Xuan Huy, this is the second porcelain violin he has given away. In 2019, during the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan in Tokyo, artist Xuan Huy presented such a violin to Emperor Akihito.

It should be emphasized that, in the world, there are some people who have made porcelain violins, but only for display and cannot be used for performance. Only the violins made by artist Xuan Huy can perform musical works as a musical instrument.
