If you have the chance to visit Quang Binh , besides enjoying local specialties like banh loc (tapioca dumplings), khoai deo (sticky sweet potato), chao canh (rice porridge with broth), etc., remember to seek out and try a unique drink made from a thorny plant that grows on the barren sand dunes: cactus tea.

This unique tea is made from cactus.

For many years, the people of Quang Binh have creatively used cactus to make a delicious sweet and sour cactus and stingray soup. Also inspired by this thorny plant, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Hong (43 years old, owner of Cat Quang Binh tea and coffee shop) has created a beverage with a rich, authentic taste of her homeland.

"I once enjoyed cactus soup and was very impressed that such a thorny plant could be transformed into such a delicious dish. There are also many cacti in Quang Binh, so I've been nurturing the idea of ​​turning this thorny plant into a sweet beverage," said Ms. Hong.

The thorny plant, similar to a cactus, is transformed into a refreshing and sweet beverage after processing.

After harvesting, Ms. Hong washes the cactus thoroughly and mixes it with other ingredients to create a refreshing drink with a slightly sour taste. Made from locally available ingredients, this unique tea also has a very endearing name, with two different preparation methods.

The cactus drink mixed with jasmine tea and tropical fruits is named "Quang Binh ơi"; the cactus drink mixed with coconut water is named "Quang Binh à".

After being put on sale, Ms. Hong's cactus tea became a "hot trend" in Quang Binh, especially popular among young people.

'Lekima 420'

That's the name of another product that Ms. Hong created from the sapodilla fruit (or egg fruit), a fruit associated with the childhood of many generations.

When customers have the opportunity to enjoy this drink, the first thing that impresses them is not the taste or quality of "lekima 420," but rather the story that Ms. Hong conveys about her love for her homeland.

Ms. Hong offers drinks that are distinctly Quảng Bình in style.

"This drink is named lekima 420 because it's the beverage I'm introducing to customers to celebrate the 420th anniversary of the founding of Quang Binh province. Besides the product being made from local ingredients, I also hope that when people and tourists enjoy this drink, they will learn about an important event in our homeland," Ms. Hong shared.

"Lekima 420" is served in a glass featuring images commemorating the 420th anniversary of the founding of Quang Binh province.

The cup holding the "lekima 420" drink is also very special, featuring an image depicting Quang Binh as the carrying pole connecting the two ends of the country. The "lekima 420" drink has a rich, creamy flavor from the milk and coconut milk, blended with the unique yet familiar aroma of the sapodilla fruit. Inside, there's jelly made from rice grown in Quang Binh.

Using ingredients that no one would have thought could be processed into a refreshing drink, Ms. Hong has found a way to create a unique product, imbued with love for her homeland, promoting the unique culture and cuisine of Quang Binh to tourists.
