The U23 International Cup - Doha Cup 2023 is an annual friendly tournament held to create a quality playground for the top U23 teams in Asia to compete.
This year's tournament is held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with the presence of 10 teams including: U23 Qatar, U23 Kyrgyzstan, U23 UAE, U23 Oman, U23 Korea, U23 Saudi Arabia, U23 Thailand, U23 Kuwait, U23 Iraq and U23 Vietnam. This is the first tournament that coach Philippe Troussier has led U23 Vietnam since officially taking over as head coach at the end of February.
The matches at the Doha Cup 2023 will be held at 4 stadiums: Thani bin Jassim, Abdullah bin Khalifa, Hamad bin Khalifa and Suheim bin Hamad. This tournament plays an important role for U23 Vietnam to test their strength, force and perfect their playing style before entering important playgrounds such as the 32nd SEA Games in May 2023 or further, the ASIAD (taking place in September 2023).
The 2023 Doha Cup will be played in a double-elimination format with the first two matches being drawn. After the results of these two matches, the final match will be based on the teams' rankings. Then, the third match will be the match that determines the final ranking of the tournament (for example, the top two teams after the first two matches will play the third match to find the champion of the 2023 Doha Cup).
Vietnam U23 players will attend Doha Cup 2023.
According to the draw results, U23 Vietnam will face U23 Iraq in the first round on March 23 (Vietnam time). Three days later, coach Philippe Troussier's team will face U23 UAE. After these two matches, the rankings on the rankings will determine the opponent for coach Troussier's team in the final round. The matches in round 3 will take place on March 29.
Doha Cup 2023 will be the first tournament that coach Troussier leads U23 Vietnam.
In the first match taking place on March 23, in addition to the match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Iraq, there will be 4 other notable matches including: U23 Thailand - U23 Saudi Arabia, U23 Korea - U23 Oman, U23 Qatar - U23 UAE, U23 Kuwait - U23 Kyrgyzstan.
Moving on to the second round on March 26, the 5 matches will be U23 Vietnam - U23 UAE, U23 Thailand - U23 Qatar, U23 Iraq - U23 Korea, U23 Saudi Arabia - U23 Kuwait and U23 Oman - U23 Kyrgyzstan. The 5 matches in round 3 will be determined after the first 2 matches are completed.
