After more than 2 hours of traveling from National Highway 6 in Thuan Chau Commune, following Provincial Road 108, through winding mountain passes, we arrived at the center of Long He Commune. Welcoming us at the commune headquarters, Comrade Cong Xuan Ngoc, Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, turned each page of the Commune Party Committee History, proudly saying: During the resistance war, the ethnic people of Long He Commune made many contributions to the resistance war against French colonialism. In January 1946, with the help of the Trung Dung Volunteer Team, the Long He Guerrilla Team was established with 30 Mong ethnic youths, propagandizing the people not to go to work as porters, not to join the army, not to pay taxes to the French. At the same time, they participated in many fierce battles, such as Phieng Ban, Hoi Sua, Can Ty, Pa Hom, Xieng Thang..., destroying many enemies, causing the French army to be confused and terrified.
In recognition of their contributions to the struggle for national liberation, on December 20, 1998, the Party and State conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on the Party Committee, government and people of Long He commune. On March 24, 2008, the Long He Guerrilla Base Historical Site was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a historical relic of the resistance war.
Promoting the heroic tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Long He commune have strived to overcome difficulties, uphold the spirit of solidarity, and build a renewed homeland. Implementing the policy of streamlining the apparatus and operating a two-level local government model, in July 2025, Long He commune was established on the basis of merging Long He and E Tong communes, opening a new development stage in the revolutionary homeland.
Mr. Lo Van Quy, Chairman of Long He Commune People's Committee, shared: After the merger, the commune has an area of nearly 158 km²; a population of nearly 8,500 people, with 3 ethnic groups Mong, Thai, Khang living in 23 villages. Promoting the advantages of soil and land conditions, the Party Committee and the commune government have directed people to shift the structure of crops and livestock, applying science and technology to production. Up to now, the whole commune has maintained production of over 1,000 hectares of rice, 390 hectares of corn and 626 hectares of fruit trees, with an output of nearly 9,000 tons/year; raising over 4,000 cattle and 45,000 poultry of all kinds; many effective economic models have been replicated.
In Cha May village, in 2021, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union supported Cha May Agricultural Cooperative to implement a black chicken farming model. After more than 3 years of implementation, the model has been widely replicated, opening up a new direction for economic development, helping many households increase their income. Mr. Lau A Lau, Director of the Cooperative, introduced: The Cooperative is raising over 1,000 native black chickens, which are naturally grazed, fed vegetables, corn, and banana trees, so the meat is very firm and delicious. At the end of 2024, the Cooperative's frozen whole chicken and medicinal chicken floss products were recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, consumed at agricultural product stores in the province and e-commerce platforms.
In addition, Long He commune has effectively exploited resources from national target programs on poverty reduction, along with contributions from the people, investing in the construction of 23 projects, with a total cost of 15.4 billion VND. Of which, 9.7 km of rural roads were concreted; 2 cultural houses were built, along with many clean water projects, schools, classrooms, etc. Up to now, 23/23 villages have car roads to the center; 98% of households have access to the national grid; 90% of households have access to clean water; 100% of agencies and units, 15/23 villages have met the "4 no" standards on drugs...
Promoting revolutionary traditions, entering a new stage, with open space, Long He Commune Party Committee focuses on implementing breakthroughs: Developing and expanding rural transport infrastructure connecting inter-regions to create a foundation for socio-economic development; establishing cooperatives and cooperatives as the core in organizing production and consumption of agricultural products, increasing people's income; promoting digital transformation, improving management efficiency, serving people... building Long He homeland to develop more and more, firmly on the new journey.
