The Vietnamese women's team is in group A with Thailand.
The draw of luck has placed the Vietnamese women's team in an easy group at the AFF Cup 2025. Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team's opponents in Group A are Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia.
This is a favorable draw result for the Vietnamese women's team on their journey to conquer the AFF Cup 2025. Thailand lost to Vietnam in the last two finals (AFF Cup 2019 and SEA Games 2019), while Indonesia and Cambodia are not too big of an obstacle.
To reach the semi-finals, the Vietnamese women's team needs to be in one of the top two positions. The entire team is currently training in Japan to prepare for the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers and the 2025 AFF Cup.
Thanh Nha (number 19) will not be able to participate in AFF Cup 2025 due to injury.
Vietnamese audiences hope coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will win the AFF Cup at home.

In Group B, the Philippines, Myanmar, Australia and Timor Leste will compete for a ticket to the semi-finals. This is the "group of death" at the AFF Cup 2025 when Australia is one of the strongest women's teams in Asia, having reached the semi-finals of the 2023 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Philippines have reached the semi-finals of the 2022 Asian Cup and are the reigning AFF Cup champions. Myanmar is also an interesting opponent, having won the Southeast Asian championship twice before.
The AFF Cup 2025 will take place from August 6 to 19, hosted by Vietnam. The matches will be held at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ).
Vietnam contributes to promoting women's football in Southeast Asia
Sharing at the drawing ceremony, Mr. Khiev Sameth, President of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF), affirmed: "Vietnam always holds high the flag of Vietnamese women's football, with great hospitality. Thank you Phu Tho and Hai Phong for hosting this year's tournament.
Over the past time, Southeast Asian women's football has been constantly developing, including the achievements of Vietnam and the Philippines in the 2023 World Cup. This year's tournament brings together 8 teams, demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity in the region. This playground will be a source of inspiration for Southeast Asian football."
President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan responded: "Hosting the AFF Cup 2025 is an honor for Vietnamese football. This is also VFF's commitment in the process of promoting women's football. We are committed to working closely with relevant parties to successfully organize the tournament, bringing a true image of Vietnam to international friends."
Throughout the 20-year history of the AFF Cup, Thailand is the most traditional team with 4 crowns (2011, 2015, 2016, 2018).
The Vietnamese women's team has won 3 championships, in 2006, 2012, and 2019. In the 2019 tournament in Thailand, the Vietnamese women's team won an emotional championship when they beat the host team 1-0 in the final thanks to a goal by striker Huynh Nhu.
