FIFA Club World Cup 2025 brings together a host of top stars |
After many years of preparation, the new version of the FIFA Club World Cup will officially kick off in the US from June 15 to July 14. The tournament, based on the idea of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, has a total prize fund of up to 1 billion USD, including 32 clubs from 6 continental confederations.
Previous Club World Cups have only had a maximum of 7 teams participating, including 6 Champions League winners from each continent and 1 club representing the host country. The teams are divided into seeded groups and drawn for a knockout round. The champions of the European and South American Champions Leagues only have to compete from the semi-finals.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will feature 32 participating clubs, divided into 8 groups similar to the previous World Cup for national teams. The teams will compete in a round robin format, with the top 2 teams from each group qualifying for the knockout round. FIFA uses its own coefficient to allocate the number of participating teams to each continent. Europe has the most representatives, with a total of 12 clubs participating. Next is South America with 6 clubs competing. Asia, Africa and CONCACAF each have 4 teams. Oceania has 1 team and the remaining spot belongs to the host country, the United States (Inter Miami).
Despite facing criticism for “draining” the players’ energy, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup still promises to create a big buzz. The presence of clubs and stars from around the world creates a special attraction for this tournament.
