Vietnam women's team gathers in Phu Tho, ready to conquer Asian Cup

TPO - Today (June 19), the Vietnamese national women's team will enter Phu Tho training camp to prepare for the final step of the qualifying round of Group E of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship. This tournament marks a promising generational transition under the leadership of veteran coach Mai Duc Chung.

Despite having just gone through a long journey from Japan, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team still appeared comfortable, confident and full of enthusiasm.

Prior to that, the team completed a 10-day training camp in Osaka, where the players performed impressively with 2 wins and 1 draw against quality opponents.

"The whole team maintained stable performance, good tactical awareness, followed the training plan and had a very high competitive spirit," said coach Mai Duc Chung.

The squad participating in this qualifying round still has the presence of the pillars who made the miracle of participating in the 2023 World Cup such as Huynh Nhu , Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Chuong Thi Kieu, Hoang Thi Loan...

At the same time, coach Mai Duc Chung also gave opportunities to players with good skills such as Ngoc Minh Chuyen, Nguyen Thi Kim Yen or Ho Thi Thanh Thao...

Notably , for the first time in the team, there is a Vietnamese-American player, Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi. This girl, born in 2003, was trained in Canada, has an ideal height and good technique.

The appearance of Nam Mi opens a new direction for Vietnamese women's football in attracting talent from the overseas Vietnamese community.

In Group E of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese women's team will face Guam, UAE and Maldives. If the red team wins the group stage, they will have a direct ticket to the final round of the Asian Women's Football Championship in Australia next year.
