Vietnam women's team starts the goal of winning the 33rd SEA Games gold medal

On the afternoon of October 21 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi), the Vietnamese women's team gathered and began their first training session in preparation for winning the 33rd SEA Games gold medal.

The number of players in this team is 26, only missing some personnel from the HCMC Women's Club (busy playing in the Asian Cup) such as Huynh Nhu and Chuong Thi Kieu, the rest are still full of veteran players such as Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Pham Hai Yen, Tran Thi Duyen, Hoang Thi Loan, Nguyen Thi Van.

Opportunities for young players

The list of Vietnam women's team preparing for SEA Games 33, in addition to some veteran faces, also includes many young and new faces. These include Ngoc Minh Chuyen, Tran Nhat Lan, Luu Hoang Van, Ta Thi Hong Minh and Ngan Thi Thanh Hieu.

"I have high expectations for the young players, so I called them up to the training camp. I hope they will quickly integrate with their seniors. Thanh Hieu and Nhat Lan tried very hard in the national championship, but they have no experience. This is an opportunity for them to get acquainted and show themselves. If they progress quickly, they will have the opportunity to compete with their seniors," coach Mai Duc Chung shared.

Explaining the reason for removing Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung's name, Mr. Chung said: "Tuyet Dung is old and her physical strength has declined. Dung has also started coaching at the club, so I also created conditions for her."

Mr. Chung also said that not calling up overseas Vietnamese players to the national team this time is also an opportunity for domestic players to have more motivation to try harder.

"The Vietnamese women's team will play SEA Games 33 with domestic strength. I also have many opinions about calling overseas Vietnamese back, but what we need, they have not met. Without overseas Vietnamese players, if we win the championship with domestic strength, that would be even more encouraging."

The Vietnamese women's team currently has three injured players who must practice separately: Ngan Thi Van Su, Thai Thi Thao and Duong Thi Van. They are expected to return to practice after about a week, so this is not a cause for concern.

Not afraid of Philippines, Myanmar

Regarding the goal, Mr. Chung affirmed that the Vietnamese women's team will still aim to defend the gold medal in women's football at the 33rd SEA Games even though they have to face the Philippines and Myanmar right from the group stage.

"We have played against France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, so the Philippines is fine. In the recent Southeast Asian Women's Championship, we also learned many lessons from playing against U23 Australia, so there is nothing to worry about. Maybe when they meet us, they will be afraid.

"The Vietnamese female players are short and have limited strength, but in return we are flexible and skillful. Our goal is to achieve the highest results," said coach Mai Duc Chung.

The HCM City women's club players will gather for a training session before the Vietnam women's national team flies to Japan for training on November 20. There, coach Mai Duc Chung's team is expected to play friendly matches with local teams. After that, the team will return to HCM City before flying to Thailand to participate in the 33rd SEA Games in early December.
