On the afternoon of October 21, at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center ( Hanoi ), the Vietnam women's football team officially gathered and started training to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games to take place in Thailand this December.

According to coach Mai Duc Chung, today's training session had a total of 26 players, notably there were no players from Ho Chi Minh City Club such as Huynh Nhu, Chuong Thi Kieu... because the team is currently focusing on preparing for the 2025-2026 Asian Women's Club Championship, scheduled to start in mid-November.

The coaching staff led by coach Mai Duc Chung continues to be accompanied by familiar assistants such as coach Doan Minh Hai, former player Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh, fitness coach Cedric Serge Christian Roger and a team doctor, ensuring professional work and fitness for the players during this training session.

A notable point in the coaching staff of the Vietnamese women's team this training session is the appearance of goalkeeper coach Lee Won Jae, assistant coach of the national men's team. He will participate in supporting goalkeeper training for the women's team in the preparation phase for the 33rd SEA Games, before returning to work with the men's team.

In the first training session, coach Mai Duc Chung mainly let the players get used to the training rhythm after the break and focused on training basic physical strength.

The training session was relaxed but serious, the players followed the training plan, warmed up gently and practiced endurance exercises, creating the premise for the upcoming tactical training phase.

Key players such as Hai Yen, Hoang Loan, Thanh Nha... continue to be key players in coach Mai Duc Chung's squad. With their extensive experience and stable performance, they are expected to lead the younger generation, playing a leading role in the playing style and fighting spirit of the Vietnamese women's team at the 33rd SEA Games.

The absence of many senior players opens up valuable opportunities for young players to demonstrate their abilities and assert themselves in the national team.

Luu Hoang Van played impressively at the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Women's Championship, scoring 5 goals and contributing greatly to the team's achievements. Her explosive performance helped this young player to be called up to the national team for the first time, opening up a valuable opportunity for her to continue to assert herself in the regional arena.

Two young faces Thanh Hieu and Nhat Lan are highly appreciated by the coaching staff after their impressive performances in recent domestic tournaments.
Although their international competition experience is limited, with a progressive spirit and upcoming training and competition opportunities, both are expected to progress quickly and become promising new factors of the Vietnam women's team.

Thai Thi Thao, Duong Thi Van and Ngan Thi Van Su are suffering from minor injuries and will need about a week to return to normal training with their teammates.

The 33rd SEA Games women's football event with 8 participating teams will take place from December 4 to December 17. According to the draw results on October 19, the Vietnamese women's team was placed in Group B, along with opponents Myanmar, Philippines and Malaysia.
In an interview before the training session, coach Mai Duc Chung shared: “The current regional opponents are very strong, many teams have naturalized players, so the competition is getting higher and higher. However, before entering the preparation phase for the SEA Games, we had the opportunity to compete with strong teams such as France, Germany, Spain, and recently a friendly match with the Australian youth team. Those matches helped the whole team accumulate a lot of valuable experience. Therefore, meeting the Philippines or Myanmar does not make us too worried."

According to the plan, from November 20, the women's team will go to Japan for training and is expected to play 3 friendly matches with "blue team" clubs with qualifications suitable to the professional ideas of the Coaching Board, supported by the arrangement of the Japan Football Federation. After the training session, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City to get used to weather conditions similar to Thailand, before moving to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
