The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just informed about the structure and requirements for assessing the thinking level of the 10th grade entrance exam in 2026 for the three subjects of literature, math and English.

Literature

Reading comprehension section : The source of quotations is material outside of textbooks; the text type is literary text and one of two types: argumentative text or informational text.

Writing section : Write a paragraph (about 200 words). One of the two following requirements must be met: Write a paragraph recording your thoughts on a poem or a poem passage.

Write a paragraph analyzing the content, the unique features of the work's artistic form, and its aesthetic effect.

Essay writing section: One of the following two requirements must be met:

- Write an argumentative essay on a life issue, clearly presenting the issue and the writer's opinion (agree or disagree) on that issue; providing convincing arguments and evidence.

- Write an argumentative essay on a problem that needs to be solved; present feasible and convincing solutions.

Math

The scope of assessment of the 2018 General Education Program for secondary school mathematics includes knowledge of geometry and measurement; numbers and algebra; statistics and probability.

The test content aims to assess mathematical abilities including mathematical thinking and reasoning, mathematical problem solving, and mathematical modeling.

Assessment orientation: Students know how to apply learned knowledge to solve practical problems. Encourage self-study and creativity, avoid rote learning.

The assessment test content aims to help students orient themselves on some necessary knowledge and skills when entering high school.

Assessment orientation: Assessment of language competence is not only based on students' rote knowledge of grammar and vocabulary; it requires assessment of their ability to understand and apply language knowledge in appropriate contexts, especially real-life situations.

Assessment scope includes phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, communication, and connection to real-life situations.
