The Vietnamese team will open the 2024 calendar year with matches at the 2023 Asian Cup. At this top Asian playground, coach Philippe Troussier's team is in a very difficult group D, with the presence of Japan, Iraq and Indonesia. Dang Van Lam and his teammates will meet Japan (January 14, 2024), Indonesia (January 19, 2024), Iraq (January 24, 2024).

The 2023 Asian Cup Organizing Committee has also announced the stadiums that will host the matches. The Vietnamese team will play their opening match against the “Samurai Blue” at the World Cup-class stadium - Al Thumama (Doha, Qatar). This is a stadium on the list of venues for the 2022 World Cup.

Al Thumama Stadium

Al Thumama Stadium impresses with its unique design, inspired by the traditional Qatari taqiyah hat. The stadium has a very modern infrastructure, with a capacity of about 44,000 seats. Up to now, the record number of spectators ever recorded at Al Thumama Stadium is 44,198, in the match between Portugal and Morocco in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup. The Portuguese team suffered a bitter defeat with a score of 0-1 against Morocco. After the match, Ronaldo cried because he stopped early in the journey to conquer the World Cup gold trophy.

Although the Abdullah bin Khalifa and Jassim bin Hamad stadiums have not reached World Cup standards like the Al Thumama stadium, they still meet the standards for top-level matches in the continent. The Abdullah bin Khalifa stadium will host the match between Vietnam and Indonesia on January 19, 2024, while the Jassim bin Hamad stadium will host the match between Vietnam and Iraq on January 24, 2024.

The 2023 Asian Cup will have 24 participating teams, divided equally into 6 groups. Each group will compete in a round robin to calculate points and rank. The top two teams in each group and the 4 third-placed teams with the best results will advance to the round of 16. The Vietnamese team has every chance of advancing to the knockout round. At the most recent Asian Cup (2019), Coach Park Hang-seo's team reached the quarter-finals.
