The Vietnamese team will kick off the 2023 Asian Cup with a friendly match against the Kyrgyzstan team on the evening of January 9. The match is a rehearsal for coach Troussier to review his squad before finalizing the list of 26 players participating in the tournament.
Unlike previous training sessions, the Vietnamese team did not have many matches to review its strength. The short training period in the country was not enough for Coach Troussier to determine the most suitable squad while practicing and anxiously waiting for information from injuries in the team. Therefore, the match with Kyrgyzstan was very important for the French coach.
Although this match is a friendly match, it also marks the first time goalkeeper Nguyen Filip wears the Vietnamese national team jersey. The goalkeeper, who is currently playing for CAHN Club, will likely be the number 1 goalkeeper of the Vietnamese national team at the 2023 Asian Cup after Dang Van Lam missed the match due to injury, and coach Troussier did not call up experienced goalkeepers, especially Nguyen Manh from Nam Dinh .
On the other side of the field, Kyrgyzstan, although ranked lower than the Vietnamese team on the FIFA rankings, is considered a “good match” for coach Troussier’s team. This team from the Central Asian region has not had good results in recent friendly matches, losing 1-4 to Uzbekistan, 0-1 to UAE and most recently drawing 1-1 with Syria during the training trip of these two teams in the UAE.
The two coaches agreed on a closed-door plan to preserve information about the squad and tactics when anticipating the possibility that opponents in the same group at the 2023 Asian Cup will "watch". For the Vietnamese team, this match is not only meaningful for goalkeeper Nguyen Filip but also for the experiments in the remaining lines. Without Ngoc Hai, Tien Dung will be an opportunity for Viet Anh, Thanh Binh, and Tuan Tai to assert themselves. Or in the midfield, young midfielder Thai Son will have more opportunities to show his ability when Hoang Duc is absent due to injury.
Even in attack, Tuan Hai will be Mr. Troussier's number 1 choice in the absence of Tien Linh, Van Quyet and even Quang Hai has not reached his best form. Not only adjusting the force, Coach Troussier will also have calculations about tactics when facing a physically strong opponent like Kyrgyzstan.
