VHO - Although the accident did not cause physical injuries, it could affect the performance of the Welsh women's team, especially when they face a strong opponent like France.

The Wales women's football team is trying to recover from a serious incident on the afternoon of July 8 (local time), when the team bus was involved in a traffic accident on the way to a training session in the city of St Gallen, northeastern Switzerland within the framework of Euro 2025.

The collision occurred at around 3:30 p.m. between the team bus and a civilian car. According to information from the Swiss police, the driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Fortunately, all members of the bus, including the players and the driver, were unharmed.

The Football Association of Wales has confirmed the situation and affirmed that the health of the entire team has not been affected, but the players' mentality has been significantly affected after this unexpected incident.

Head coach Rhian Wilkinson immediately cancelled the partially open training session at St Gallen Stadium – where the match against France was due to take place on 10 July at 02:00 (Vietnam time) – and instead held a light session at the team's training base in Weinfelden, about 30 minutes' drive from St Gallen Stadium.

Wilkinson, along with captain Angharad James and communications director Owain Harries, were not on the bus at the time of the accident as they had travelled by private car to the stadium to attend a press conference.

Speaking at a press conference after the incident, coach Wilkinson expressed his emotion: "I have been assured that everyone on the bus is fine. Most importantly, I think the driver of the other bus is also fine. Football is secondary at this time. We are really shaken. The top priority is to get everyone away from the scene and ensure their mental and physical health."

"We will constantly check the status of all members of the squad and make sure they are fully supported. We have trained for the unexpected, and perhaps this is one of them," coach Wilkinson shared.

The incident comes as Wales prepare to enter their second Group D match of the tournament, following a 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands in Lucerne. Meanwhile, France are top of the group after an impressive win over England in Zurich. The match against France is seen as a key test for Wales in their campaign.
