Anticipating change in the exam

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên11/09/2023

For example, Mr. Dang Duy Hung, Director of Professional Development at Lasan Education, predicts that the exam preferences for 9th and 12th graders under the new curriculum next year will change.

"We continuously update our teaching knowledge based on modules and training provided by the Ministry of Education and Training. However, because the materials provided by the Ministry contain a mix of new and old content, we choose to work on the old content first and prepare a preliminary version of the new content, with the aim of always updating as directly and quickly as possible. In my opinion, the exams of the new curriculum are moving closer to assessing competence, meaning they focus on understanding and the breadth of knowledge rather than in-depth knowledge. Along with that, I predict that the competency assessment exams of universities will also change in the context of the new curriculum," this teacher said.

Feeling quite anxious about how the exam will change next year, Ms. Le Ba Anh Thu, founder and director of Viet Anh Thu Academy, believes that the exam process will shift gradually, not as hastily as when the new curriculum textbooks were implemented. In fact, the content of the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City has changed significantly in recent years, emphasizing the testing of critical thinking and practical math skills, rather than focusing heavily on problem-solving techniques as before.

"The basic knowledge tested in the new exam will be what's taught in class, and it might be 'packaged' in a more lively and practical format, similar to the current 10th grade entrance exam. But I believe you will do well because you have adapted over the past 3 or 4 years," Ms. Thu shared.

Regarding the content of the high school graduation exam, Mr. Le Minh Xuan Nhi, Director of the NP Knowledge Cultural Training Center, said that they are currently reviewing mock exams from high schools affiliated with universities, and also researching competency assessment exams from other educational organizations. "These sets of questions are oriented towards the new high school graduation exam curriculum. In addition, we are also reviewing drafts on testing and evaluation from schools for the next academic year to develop a direction for subject combinations. Currently, the new curriculum only applies up to grade 11, so everything is still unclear. We are still waiting; the spirit is to teach all content in a balanced way, and once we have a clear direction, we will focus more," Mr. Nhi affirmed.
