Attending the workshop were leaders of People's Committees of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, representatives of departments and agencies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , and more than 40 investors of offshore, onshore wind power and solar power projects.
At the workshop, delegates listened to scientists and businesses present their opinions on issues of concern in the field of selecting investors to implement renewable energy projects; assessing the capacity of the transmission and distribution grid; opportunities and challenges, proposing solutions for developing renewable energy sources in general and wind power in particular; experience in implementing wind power projects in Vinh Long province;...
According to the assessment, the Mekong Delta with more than 740km of coastline, abundant biomass and solar radiation, is becoming a region with great potential for wind power, solar power and biomass power. Vinh Long - the regional center with convenient traffic infrastructure, is oriented to become the clean energy locomotive of the region. The projects, when put into operation, will create a stable energy source, contribute to the budget, create jobs and promote green economic structure.
Representatives of localities, ministries, branches, businesses, and scientists held a dialogue, proposed measures to remove difficulties and obstacles in legal matters and power infrastructure, and shared practical experiences to promote rapid development of renewable energy in the Mekong Delta.
Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Quynh Thien said that the province is determined to concretize Resolution 70 of the Politburo, considering green economy and renewable energy as a strategic direction.
At the same time, Vinh Long affirmed that it will build a transparent and stable investment environment, issue outstanding policies to attract new energy projects such as wind power and solar power; prioritize land funds, and create the most favorable conditions for investors.
Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien also said that Vinh Long will closely coordinate with the Mekong Delta provinces, calling on domestic and foreign corporations to invest in high technology and energy storage systems, aiming to become the clean energy center of the region, contributing to ensuring national energy security and implementing green transition commitments.
Vinh Long has natural advantages with more than 130km of coastline, a dense river system, flat terrain and a typical monsoon climate. These are favorable conditions for developing wind power on land, inshore and offshore.
Currently, Vinh Long is commercially operating a total capacity of 5,416 MW of electricity, of which 918 MW is from renewable energy, reaching a total output of nearly 30 billion kWh/year, creating a value equivalent to VND 24,300 billion. Duyen Hai thermal power plants, at Duyen Hai Power Center, have a capacity of 4,515 MW, the largest in the country.
According to the plan until 2030, the total capacity of Vinh Long province's power sources will reach 9,127 MW, including 52 wind power projects with a total capacity of 4,179 MW, 5 solar power projects with a capacity of 339 MW, along with biomass, waste-to-energy, and thermal power projects.
Besides, according to a survey by the Institute of Energy under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vinh Long has the capacity to exploit about 3,900 MW of wind power on land and in the sea by 2030, in addition, offshore wind power is estimated at about 1,000 MW.
This is an important basis for the province to orient itself towards becoming the renewable energy center of the Mekong Delta region.
With the spirit of "government accompanying businesses", Vinh Long commits to removing difficulties and accompanying investors to realize the goal of becoming the renewable energy center of the Mekong Delta, moving towards the clean energy export center of the whole country.
