Khe Ran tourist site (Nghe An) has emerged as a highlight of community tourism associated with the preservation and promotion of fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities. Initially, it has brought about effectiveness, and the lives of the people have improved a lot.

Khe Ran village is a pure Thai village with about 168 households in Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong district (Nghe An). Previously, people's lives were very difficult, mainly depending on agricultural production and harvesting forest products. Since 2016, according to the State's policy, Khe Ran village is one of 4 villages in Con Cuong district chosen to build a community tourism model, with the "assistance" from Project 6, the National Target Program for Socio-economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, which has initially brought about results. The village has welcomed many visitors to visit and experience. Since then, people's lives have improved a lot.

To serve the needs of tourists for sightseeing and experience, since its establishment, Khe Ran Village Management Board has focused on exploiting and promoting the traditional cultural values of the locality, from cuisine to customs, beliefs, festivals, folk games, etc. Up to now, the village has established 2 art troupes to serve tourists, forming a culinary service team with the participation of 12 female members in the village, which can simultaneously serve groups of 60-70 people, specializing in serving tourists with typical Thai dishes.

Arriving at Khe Ran village in late November 2024, right from the beginning of the village, the welcome gate invested from the capital of Project 6, Program 1719 reminded visitors that they had set foot in one of the 4 community tourism spots of Tra Lan region. Going deep into the village, visiting the ancient stilt houses, we heard about the unique customs, folk songs, folk dances, traditional crafts, culinary culture, costumes, stilt house architecture... of the people here. It is these ancient cultural features that have attracted the attention of tourists from inside and outside the province. According to estimates of the Khe Ran Village Management Board, the number of visitors to the district increases by an average of over 10% each year.

According to Mr. Ha Van Huong, Head of Khe Ran village, the village still preserves nearly 150 ancient stilt houses with high aesthetic and cultural values. In the past year, thanks to capital from Project 6, Program 1719 of the Central Government, Khe Ran village has invested in many additional items serving cultural preservation activities as well as community tourism such as sports grounds, outdoor stages, drainage ditches, welcome gates, etc. Thanks to that, the village's tourist attractions are increasingly crowded with visitors and experiential tourism. "Currently, Khe Ran village has more than 30% of households participating in tourism such as homestay, brocade weaving, cuisine, handicrafts, etc. And the number of households serving tourism also accounts for more than 70% of the village," Mr. Huong added.

Brocade weaver Luong Thi Lien (60 years old), residing in Khe Ran village, shared: “Our village has about 50 households involved in tourism, however, the number of households involved indirectly in tourism is very large. My family and I only participate in one step in the village’s tourism chain, but we are very proud that not only do we have extra income, but our village’s cultural features are known to domestic and foreign tourists.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Lo Thi Than (64 years old), resident of Khe Ran village, affirmed that since learning about community tourism and receiving support from the State, especially resources from Project 6, Program 1719, the people here have been very enthusiastic in participating. The villagers themselves have established groups and associations to take charge of activities such as cooking, dancing, singing, etc. This activity not only has economic value and community tourism, but also helps people understand and appreciate the cultural identities of their own community.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Thinh, Head of the Project Management Board of Con Cuong district, said that the disbursement of projects under the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the district is being implemented on schedule. Specifically, for the investment capital from 2022 - 2024, more than 5.3 billion VND was allocated, of which more than 5.1 billion VND has been disbursed, reaching 95%, and the projects have been completed and put into use. Meanwhile, the public capital for 2023 and 2024 is allocated 470 million VND. "For Khe Ran village alone, the capital from Project 6 of Program 1719 is allocated more than 1.3 billion VND to build items such as welcome gates, stadium fences, concrete pouring of parking lots, outdoor stages, etc. In addition, there are a number of other items invested by the People's Committee of Bong Khe commune," Mr. Thinh added.
