Update coffee prices today 8/4/2025
Coffee prices have suddenly dropped sharply in the Central Highlands, while the world market has "froze". Notably, a new US tax policy could cause a "seismic" global change, reshaping the future of the coffee industry.
Coffee prices today, August 4, 2025, brought a big surprise when they all dropped sharply in the Central Highlands provinces. The common decrease was 500 VND, while Gia Lai decreased by 600 VND per kg. The highest price is currently at 99,000 VND/kg, the lowest is 98,700 VND/kg.
In contrast, on the world market, coffee prices had a "static" day. Both Robusta coffee on the London floor and Arabica coffee on the New York floor maintained stable prices, without any changes in all trading terms.
News, forecast of coffee prices tomorrow August 5, 2025
Forecast of domestic coffee prices on August 5, 2025
Last week, the September 2025 contract rose sharply by 3.3%, or $106 per tonne, to $3,334 per tonne. However, according to the latest data, prices have leveled off and remained stable at $3,330 per tonne.
Based on this development, domestic coffee prices are forecasted to tend to stabilize tomorrow, August 5, 2025, with possible small fluctuations according to market supply and demand, but unlikely to make a strong breakthrough. Exporters and domestic traders will continue to closely monitor price developments on the London floor to adjust their business strategies.
World Coffee Price Forecast August 5, 2025
Robusta coffee (London exchange) after an impressive week of price increases, the Robusta market is expected to continue to have volatile trading sessions. Although Robusta is not a commodity directly affected by the US tariffs on Brazil, the disruption to the global supply chain can create ripple effects.
Arabica coffee (New York) is in the spotlight with the 50% tariff that the Trump administration will impose on some Brazilian products, including coffee, starting August 6. This move will pose a major challenge for Brazilian coffee traders and exporters.
In contrast to Robusta, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery on the New York Stock Exchange last week fell by 3.8% (11.2 US cents/pound) to 286.35 US cents/pound. With the information about tariffs, Arabica prices are expected to continue to be under downward pressure and may witness strong fluctuations in the coming time.
General future trends
A 50% tariff on Brazilian coffee could reshape coffee trade routes from the world's largest exporter and producer, giving China an advantage and prompting traders to seek indirect routes to get coffee into the United States.
“The global coffee trade flow will be disrupted,” said Michael J. Nugent, a veteran coffee broker in the United States. “The impact will be felt from São Paulo to Seattle – from producers to roasters, coffee chains, grocery stores and even the morning coffee drinkers.”
Brazil, instead of exporting to the US, is likely to export more coffee to China thanks to the trade relationship between the two countries. Coffee consumption in China is booming as many young people switch from tea to coffee. In addition to China, many Brazilian coffee shipments may also be redirected to the European Union (EU), which does not impose import tariffs on coffee.
