On the afternoon of January 10, the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, the Department of Information and Communications, and the Provincial Journalists Association held a press conference for January 2024.
At the conference, Chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee Nguyen Viet Hung informed about the Western Nghe An Marathon - 2024 "To the mountainous region - Conquering Puxailaileng peak, the roof of Truong Son range".
Accordingly, the tournament is expected to be held from February 17-18, 2024 (ie January 8-9 of the lunar calendar). The opening ceremony will be held at Block 4, Muong Xen Town, Ky Son District.
The 2024 Mararhon Tournament “Going to the mountains - Conquering Puxailaileng peak, the roof of the Truong Son range” is an open district-level competition with high professional quality, gathering professional athletes from home and abroad to participate, with an expected participation of about 1,500 athletes. Athletes compete in 4 distances (42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km).
Competition route:
- Distance 42 km: Starting from Pung village, Muong Hai commune on route DT -543 - Huoi Khe village - Xop Xang village - Xop Lau village - Xop Phong village - Na My village - Vang Phao village - Xop Tip village - Sap Phe village - Cha Lat village - Vang Ngo village - Ta Do village - Nhan Ly village - Nhan Cu village - Canh village - Dich (about 500m from National Highway 7 and DT 534D).
- Distance 21 km: Starting from Muong Tip Commune People's Committee on route DT - 543D - Ta Do village - Nhan Ly village - Nhan Cu village - Canh village - Dich (about 500m from the intersection of National Highway 7 and DT 543D).
- Distance 10 km: Starting at route DT -543 (about 500m from the intersection of QL7 and DT 543D) - Canh village - Nhan Cu village - and returning to the destination.
- Distance 5 km: Start at route DT - 543D (about 500m from the intersection of QL7 and DT 543D) - Canh village - and return to the destination.
To successfully organize the tournament, the organizing committee proactively planned to pick up and drop off athletes, handle logistics, and ensure security, medical care , and communications.
This is the first time the marathon tournament has been held in the mountainous district of Ky Son in a socialized form. The total prize is 378 million VND, including cash and gifts (of which, 178 million VND in cash).
The tournament is organized as a sports activity to celebrate the Party and the Year of the Dragon in 2024, aiming to spread running to the community as well as international friends, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, improving the level of cultural and spiritual enjoyment for people. This is also an activity to strengthen solidarity, promote the movement of practicing and competing in sports in general and running in particular, contributing to the movement "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho".
Through this race, we aim to introduce the majestic scenery, cultural beauty, cuisine, and people of Ky Son mountain region to everyone, contributing to promoting and developing tourism as well as the local economy. Each step of the athletes will contribute a small part to the Warm Coat Fund for children in especially difficult circumstances from ethnic minorities in remote, isolated, and especially difficult border areas.
