The above information was just announced by a representative of the People's Committee of Hoi An City (Quang Nam Province), at the same time affirming: Most of the tourism- related indicators of Hoi An have so far recovered, reaching 70% or more compared to 2019 - the time before the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee Nguyen Van Lanh, the Hoi An tourism market has recovered, of which international visitors account for over 70%, with the leading number of visitors coming from South Korea (more than 215 thousand arrivals, accounting for 20.65%); followed by Taiwan (China) and Australia, the second and third markets (with more than 137 thousand arrivals, accounting for 13.21% and more than 83 thousand arrivals, accounting for 8.05%, respectively). Meanwhile, European visitors traveling in groups increased in the last months of 2023 with visitors from the UK, France, Germany, and Spain accounting for a high market share (in the list of top 10 countries sending the most visitors to Hoi An). In addition, in 2023, Hoi An also recorded a rapid increase in visitors from ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia; In particular, Malaysian visitors ranked 5th in the list of countries sending the most visitors to Hoi An with more than 59 thousand visitors, accounting for 5.72%.

Meanwhile, the domestic tourist market to Hoi An in 2023 mainly comes from the Northern localities and the Central provinces. Domestic tourists coming to Hoi An mainly during the holidays in 2023 are less than in 2022; tourists traveling in groups of friends and families from Da Nang and Tam Ky have decreased significantly compared to previous years.

Regarding visitor spending, according to the leader of Hoi An City People's Committee, although the results of the survey on tourist spending in Quang Nam conducted by the General Statistics Office have not been announced, through monitoring, visitor spending is relatively low compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason may be that tourists have tightened their spending and Hoi An's goods and souvenirs have not met the shopping needs of tourists. In addition, tourism services, especially spas, cooking, etc., have not been used much by visitors.

Regarding the business situation, according to Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee Nguyen Van Lanh, in general, small accommodation establishments in Hoi An have basically overcome the most difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to a simple and flexible management system in adjusting prices and services to serve customers. However, most large accommodation establishments (from 30 - 40 rooms or more) are still facing many difficulties due to price competition from 4-star hotels or more that were transferred by large corporations in 2022 and put into operation in 2023. Along with that, 4-5 star hotels have not yet fully recovered because the number of guests is not equal to the time before the COVID-19 pandemic but room rental prices are lower and input costs are higher.

Providing more information about the local tourist accommodation system, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee Nguyen Van Lanh said: As of October 31, 2023, the whole city has 856 establishments with 12,684 rooms. Of which, the hotel type has 167 establishments with 8,653 rooms, accounting for 68.23% of the total number of rooms in the city; the tourist villa type has 267 establishments with 2,219 rooms, accounting for 17.49% of the total number of rooms in the city; the homestay type has 415 establishments with 1,638 rooms, accounting for 12.91% of the total number of rooms in the city; the rest are motels and other types...

Regarding transportation and travel agencies, the leader of Hoi An City People's Committee said that the city currently has 82 business units in this field, of which 54 are international travel agencies; 15 are domestic travel agencies; 10 are representative offices; and 3 are travel agencies./.
